Mexican Resort

MJ and I are currently planning our winter travel plans.  It has me thinking about warm weather destinations.  We didn’t fall in love this resort, but we had a good time.  As you can tell, I captured this photo with my drone.  Looks pretty doesn’t it??

Splendor's Theater

I haven’t posted a Carnival Cruise ship photo lately.  Therefore, I’m posting this photo I took inside the Carnival Splendor’s theater.  Sometimes these theaters are over the top, but this one is just plain classy.

Last Week

I’ve been absent from my website and all social media last week.  I was traveling and busy.  Here’s how my week went:

·       Sunday – drove from Pittsburgh to north of Detroit.  Visited with my sister and her family, then dinner and visiting with my childhood friends and their wives/girlfriends.

·       Monday – breakfast with a former boss/mentor.  Then I visited with the Carmen’s….who are quasi parents to MJ and I.  Following that, I went to visit with someone who helped raise me and ended the day by having dinner with my Dad.  He and I got a chance to hang out and talk.

·       Tuesday – my Dad and I went for a walk and then snorkeled at the beach in front of his cottage on Lake Huron.  Following that I drove to Grayling Michigan (central northern Michigan) to visit with my Aunt, cousin and other family members.  Following that nice visit, I traveled further north to join my scuba diving buddies.

·       Wednesday through Friday – We ate, slept, visited and completed some cold water ship wreck scuba diving in Lake Huron and Lake Michigan.   The depth of wrecks ranged from 90 feet to 158 feet.   We dove on a steel freighter, wooden schooners and a wooden steamer.  The water was around 71 degrees at the surface and as cold as 38 degrees below the thermocline.  I’ve been diving with these guys for well over ten years and we always have a great time.  This was no different.  Afterward, I drove from northern Michigan to South Bend Indiana to meet up with MJ, Blair and our friends.

·       Saturday – we all traveled to Chicago to see Pearl Jam play at Wrigley Field (see the photos below).  Great concert in a great venue.

·       Sunday – we had the long trip from Chicago back to Pittsburgh.

I took the photo of Scott Gibson and myself with my drone out on Lake Huron a few miles out from Mackinaw City.  The other two (Tom and Kyle) were underwater at the time diving on the Cedarville ship wreck.  Scott and I were wasting time waiting on them to come back up.  You can see Mackinac Island off in the background.

Catedral de San Juan Bautista

What is it about churches, temples, cathedrals and similar structures?  I’m drawn to them for some reason and it isn’t for the religion.  The obvious answer that the universe would scream back at me is “It’s the architecture stupid!!”  And if its an abandoned church, well………………..

I captured this photo inside the Catedral San Juan Bautista in Old San Juan Puerto Rico.

Eurodam

Anyone going on a cruise soon?  Not me.  At this point, our next booked cruise is a long way off.  I took this photo of the Eurodam cruise ship in Kotor Montenegro after we left the Adriatic Sea.  The Eurodam was docked next to our cruise ship.  Sailing through the Adriatic Sea and the Mediterranean was a great cruise.

Parthenon

The Acropolis of Athens is an interesting site.  The history and archaeology go back to 447 BC.  My favorite part of this location is the Parthenon.  As you can see from my photo, they were working on restoration to make sure the site is around for the another 1,000 years.  It was extremely hard to get photos of this site without tourist in the photo.  There were hundreds of them everywhere.

Holy Water Batman

During our epic Motown Urbex trip this spring, Blair and I went to the Cadillac Stamping Plant before the rest of the group arrived.  It rained hard the day before and some while we were at the site.  That created lots of flooded spaces including this mechanical rooftop area.  That standing water helped provide lots of reflections like this.  I loved the way the windows and elevator doors reflected off the water.

Capital Building

MJ and I were in Washington D.C. this weekend vising a couple of our friends (Nick and Erica).  We had a great time and enjoyed our time with them.  I didn’t take many photos while I was there, but I went out around sunset to capture some photos of the White House at that time of day.  I haven’t processed any of those pics yet, but here is a photo of the Capital Building from two visits ago.

Branch Bank

This is a photo I took about a year ago, while Blair and I explored a bunch of abandoned buildings in a town outside of Pittsburgh.  This was a bank with teller windows, a vault, etc…you know…typical bank items.  As you can see, the back wall of the bank has collapsed.  This was a great urbex spot.

William Gay

All the NFL teams are in training camp getting ready for their first preseason games.  William Gay was a staple of the Steelers defense for years.  This year he signed an agreement to play with the New York Giants.  I wish him luck.  He was a colorful player with the Steelers during my time covering the team.  I took this photo of him last season.

Palermo Cathedral

How was your Wednesday?  My week started off great with a Foo Fighters concert in Chicago and been great ever since.  My time is short tonight, so I’ll keep this blog post short as well.  I took this photo outside the Cathedral in Palermo Italy.  I just liked the detail on this portion of the church.

Impala

I haven’t shared a photo from South Africa lately, so you’ll get one today.  This guy tried to sneak through the bush without us seeing him, but we caught him in the act and I got this great photo.  He’s an amazing and beautiful animal.

Pittsburgh's Past

I’ve posted some photos from this spot, Carrie Furnace, in the past.  We got private access to this site and spent a few hours photographing it from multiple angles (inside and out).  I love the fact that they’re saving this for historical purposes.  All other steel mill site around Pittsburgh area already gone.

Once Proud Stadium

Tonight’s post is another photo from the University of Akron’s Rubber Bowl.  I heard recently that they are destroying this abandoned building because they’re concerned it isn’t safe.  I understand why they’d take it down, but it’s also a little sad at the same time.

Wine Bar

This is the wine bar and steak house on one of the Carnival Cruise ships.  But I honestly, don’t remember which ship this is.  How sad is that, when I can’t remember which ship this is?  Anyone out there in the Internet world know?

Some of the spaces on these ships are so cool.  The design, textures, colors and just how warm they feel is appealing to me.  I can’t help but see the beauty in these spaces.

City With A View

Its been a while since I posted a NYC photo and its been a while since my last visit to the Big Apple.  Maybe I’ll try to fit a visit in next year.  I know I can’t fit it into my 2018 travel schedule.  At this point, 2018 is full and 2019 is starting to fill up as well.  We’ll see what I can do.  By the way, I think this view from Brooklyn is amazing.

Athens Ruins

Athens wasn’t my favorite destination, but I’m glad I had a chance to see many of the sites.  During some free time, I wandered around and found this site.  I honestly don’t know the details, history or name, but it was a great site.

Aaron and Mike

The NFL season is just around the corner, believe it or not.  I haven’t received the sideline media passes yet, but they’re on the way….   I’m ready, how about you?

Today’s post is of Aaron Rodgers and Mike Tirico hanging out before the Packers vs. Steelers game last season.

Montenegro Tiny Chapel

While we were traveling, MJ and I came upon this tiny chapel in rural Montenegro.  She went on a guided tour of a museum while I photographed the exterior and some areas of the village.  That’s when I found this neat little church.
