Double Golden

I don’t often have bad trips…maybe never.  But I don’t want every trip I take to sound like it was off the charts amazing.  I’m naturally optimistic and positive, which has an impact on my general outlook about my experiences.  All that said, I had a great time in San Francisco earlier this month.  On my 2nd evening, I took an Uber to the Golden Gate Bridge.  From there, I took a ton of photos around this historic landmark.  After capturing all the photographs I wanted at that spot, I started walking back toward the downtown area taking photos along the entire way.  Today’s photo is from that walk.  I was probably a mile east of the bridge heading towards the Palace of Fine Arts.  I wasn’t really thinking about it or planning it, but for some reason I looked backwards (back towards the area I had left) and saw this amazing view.  Thus, you get this great photo to appreciate.  The lesson is to remember to look backwards from time to time.  You never know what great view is back there unless you look. In this case, the Golden Gate Bridge and a golden sunset.

Boschendal Winery

I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ll say it again.  South Africa was AMAZING!!  It’s on my “return to” list.  We had such a wonderful time.  Great food.  Beautiful landscapes.  Cool wildlife.  We lucked out with great weather.  Extremely affordable and we visited some outstanding wineries.   One of them was this cool estate called Boschendal Winery.  They had this great outdoor setting where we sampled numerous wines.  Here is the link to their site:  http://www.boschendal.com/

Car Park

During a past visit to Detroit, Rodney and I went over to the Pontiac Silverdome.  We were hoping to photograph the inside, but work crews were actually within destroying the facility.  So, we launched the drone and took a punch of photos of the old girl before she was gone.  In the parking lot around the old stadium were thousands of cars.  I assume one of the local automotive plants was storing them there before they are sent off to dealerships around the country.

St. Agnes

Happy Friday.  I hope you enjoy your weekend.  The last 8 work days have been extremely tough for me.  I’m ready for a nap now and some relaxing this weekend.  I’ll probably do some yard work as well, but some down time is on my agenda.

Today’s photo is one I took within the St. Agnes Catholic Church during our Detroit Urbex Adventure.  We had an interesting time at this site.

The Big Wheel

Today’s photo is from Cape Town South Africa.  This huge Ferris wheel sits in the wonderful marina area of the city.  There are a bunch of museums, shops, restaurants, bars, etc… in this area.  We were there in the middle of a week day and the place had all kinds of people hanging out.  I’d go back tomorrow, except for that thing call “work”.

Suwannee River

Hello Monday!!  I took this photo last August while I was in Florida at a family member’s house.  That area of the state is very rural with lots of wilderness and nothingness.  This county has less than 9,000 total people according to the 2010 Census.  In fact (according to Wikipedia), this county is the 2nd least populous in the state of Florida.  Anyway, there is something very pretty about the Suwannee River from the ground and certainly from the air.  By the way, in case you’re wondering, this river is approximately 246 miles long.

Downtown's Backside

Happy Sunday, where ever you are today.  I’m going to be lazy.  I planned on doing a bunch of yard work, except its been raining at my house.  So I’ll pivot to a more relaxing agenda.  Today’s photo is one I took on a past photo walk with Dave, and Brad from the back side of downtown Pittsburgh.  Most view and photograph Pittsburgh from the river side, which is the iconic view you always see.  This is why I think this perspective is so unique.

Smithfield Bridge Again

Back on May 1st I posted a photo of this bridge that I took during the blue hour with a car streaking through the photo.  This photo was taken the same night, just a few hours earlier using my drone.  I positioned the drone above and just to the side of the bridge, which is an angle I can’t get unless I use a drone.  I’m not sure what it is about this bridge, but it’s one of my favorite in Pittsburgh.

Cheboygan Point Lighthouse

I can’t remember the last time I posted a photo of a lighthouse.  So tonight, I have the Cheboygan Point Light house for your viewing pleasure.  I think this is an abandoned structure.

I took this photo last fall, when I was on Lake Huron shipwrecking scuba diving with some friends.  Between dives, I launched the drone and captured this photo.  If you look closely, you can see us in the boat behind the lighthouse.

Eastern Market

Every time I go to Detroit to capture some urbex photos, I stop by Eastern Market.  I love this area of Detroit.  They’ve converted in into this hip area with cool shops, artist galleries and a huge farmer’s market.  There are still working ware houses and old factory buildings.  They’ve paid amazing graffiti artist from around the world to come paint these huge murals.  They even have a graffiti festival every year to celebrate these great artists and unveil new paintings.  This big mural is at the entrance to this area.

Peter Paul

I’ve posted photos from this great spot many times before.  This is the incredible St. Peter and St. Paul Cathedral.  It’s truly a classic.  I’ve had a hard time getting a bad image inside this facility.  They all just turn out great…..at least from my perspective.  Enjoy your Sunday.

Seattle In Gray

I took this photo a few years ago and it’s been sitting on my hard drive waiting to be processed.  I finished it recently and decided to make it a black and white photo.  I loved the city of Seattle…. It was such a great city and I’m ready to return.

Carrie Furnace

As you all know, I process photos by jumping around.  I process a few photos from one location, then process a few from another location, then onto the next one, etc…  I never process photos in a linear way…I just get bored to easily.  So here is a photo I processed last night from a photo walk I did in 2016 at the Carrie Furnace south of Pittsburgh.

Coffee Cups

Have a great Monday, where ever and whatever you’re doing.  Today’s photo is from an abandoned china factory in Pennsylvania.  I’ve also included a video I took from the upper floor of this facility (see below).

Allegheny Cemetery

Its Memorial Day tomorrow here in the United States.  Most Americans use this three-day weekend to travel, hang out with friends, grill out and just have fun.  It’s become the unofficial start of summer vacation season for most Americans.  It was setup as a Federal holiday to remember individuals who died while serving in the military.  So regardless of your plans this weekend, have a great time.

Today’s photo is from the Allegheny Cemetery is Pittsburgh.  I love this castle looking structure at the entrance of the cemetery.

Calzone's

On my first night in San Francisco, I ate dinner outside at this restaurant.  It was such a cool experience just watching the people and traffic pass by my seat.  And the food was great as well.  I liked this spot so much, that a couple of days later I went back to photograph the building after sunset.

Heyward

Cameron Heyward is a huge defensive end for the Steelers.  The Steelers drafted him in the first round of the 2011 draft with their 31st pick.  He played college at that terrible school called Ohio State.  Regardless, during his time in Pittsburgh, he’s been a force to reckon with…..

Palace of Fine Arts

Here is a very recent photo that I took while in San Francisco.  I was staying in the Financial District in the downtown area.  So, I took an Uber to the Golden Gate Bridge to start taking photos of it around sunset.  Boy, was it cold with a very strong wind.  From there I walked to this wonderful location and took a ton of photos as it was getting dark.   If you get to San Fran, you have to visit this site.  Just outstanding….

Durban Hotel

This is the back patio of the hotel we stayed at in Durban, South Africa.  We had a really short stay here, maybe 12 hours maximum (if that long).  We got to the hotel late in the evening and we left very early the next morning.  I took this photo before we left during a rainy dark morning….  The hotel also had these weird light bulbs in this area giving the patio a rainbow light color pattern.  I didn’t edit the photo to make these colors show up…that’s due to these unique light bulbs….  The hotel had this artsy contemporary design.  I wanted to get some beach photos (you can see it on the far-right side of the photo) but it was dark and raining, so I stayed on the patio.

Pool Side Fun

We’ve been to Mexico so many time and honestly, it’s always a great time.  We’ve never had any issues and it’s hard to beat the value.  At this specific resort, I captured a ton of wonderful photos.  There was one amazing sunrise after another and the facility and pools were beautiful.
