Slow Pittsburgh Night

I’m sorry…..another short post today….straight to the photo.  I took this last summer well after dark on a night the city was dead….as you can tell since there were no cars on the street except for a couple.  So, there you go!!

Chernobyl Ferris Wheel

One of the most popular spots to visit inside the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone is the abandoned carnival.  Unfortunately, the city of Pripyat was set to have a carnival/celebration for a few days, when the radioactive disaster struck.  So the carnival rides (bumper cars, ferris wheel, and rides) got left behind like everything else since they became radioactive from the nuclear fallout.

This is one of the highlights for most visitors to Chernobyl.  You can see we were at this spot early in the morning, thus the long shadows and we got to experience some great fall colors.

Melk Abbey

This Benedictine abbey in the town of Melk Austria sits upon a hill top overlooking the Melk village and the Danube river in the Wachau valley.  The abbey was started in 1089.  The abbey started the monastic school in the 12th century and today has over 900 students.  This building was built starting in 1702 and finished in 1736. I took this photo inside an internal courtyard.

Andy Warhol Bridge

What should I share with you tonight???  Honestly, I’m probably not in a good frame of mind to share much without sounding negative.  Therefore, I’ll just leave you with this nice photo of the Pittsburgh skyline with the Andy Warhol Bridge in the foreground.  That’s it.  I’m out!!

Need A Chair?

This is my 3rd photo in a row featuring “water” as the main element.  I didn’t plan to create this trend, but I’ll keep it going tonight.

I took this photo four Mexico trips back (I think....).  I love these quiet mornings on the beach before 99.9% of the other guest are awake.  I usually have the entire environment to myself and I can have any chair I want!!

Morning Sun

The beauty of waking up early for a sunrise is that normally I’m alone.  Or mostly alone.  The popular beach is abandoned.  The resort pool is vacant.  The Lido deck on a cruise ship is quiet.  You get the point.  It doesn’t seem to matter where we travel to, I can count on this phenomenon.  Which allows me the opportunity to capture great photos without tourists in the way.  And I’ve come to the realization that people around the world, all like to sleep in….

Simpson Bay Sunset

Today’s blog post if of a sunset from Simpson’s Bay in St. Martin.  We had a wonderful time traveling to this island with a few family members.  Mother nature treated us to a week full of wonderful sunsets like this one.  I took this photo from the beach at our resort.  I like the moody feel of this photo and it takes me right back to our time sitting on the beach watching this unfold.  Good times, great location.

Hot Air Balloon

Today’s photo is from our trip to Sedona.  While we were there, we went on an amazing hot air balloon ride over the area.  It was a super fun way to spend the morning.  I took this photo of the inside of the balloon as the pilot was filling it up with air.  The balloon was still lying on its side about ¾ full, but not yet standing erect.

Pennsylvania Trolley Museum

MJ and I needed something to do on Saturday morning.  We’ve traveled the county and most of southwestern Pennsylvania a ton in the last three years.  But we’d never gone to this museum even though it isn’t far from our home.  It just wasn’t high on the “To Do” list.

Well it was nice because it was cheap, didn’t take to long (about 1.5 hours), they have about 30 different trolleys (some over 100 years old), and you get an actual trolley ride.   It wasn’t exactly uber exciting, but it was fairly interesting.

Today’s Photo:

I took this photo at the stop during the trolley ride, which allows everyone to walk the inside of the trolley storage facility.  It is a 7 exposure auto-bracketed shot (+3, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2, -3) HDR photo merged in Photomatix Pro and edited in Photoshop CS6.
