FIA Formula 1 series

I’ve enjoyed the start of the 2023 FIA Formula 1 season so far.  I can’t wait until the next race that I can attend.  Until then, here is a small series of photos I took at the United States Grand Prix last October.

F1 Behind the Scenes

I had a great time covering the 2022 FIA Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in Austin Texas last month.  I’ve already shared a bunch of driver, car and celebrity photos from those three days.

Today, I’m going to share photos from behind the scenes.  These will include the media spaces, media members, drivers getting interviewed, tree planting event, other photographers, myself, etc...

More F1

Here are more from the recent 2022 FIA Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in Austin Texas.

More F1 USGP

I’ve been working my way through all the photos I took last weekend. Here is another bunch for you.

A small sample of the thousands of photos I took today (Race Day). I took just as many the last two days leading up to today capturing all the pre-race activities, practice, qualifying and parties. Make sure you scroll down to see the numerous galleries.

2022 FIA Formula 1 Season About to Start

I’m still worried about and tracking progress in Ukraine, but I’m posting about something else today.  That doesn’t mean I stopped caring…...

Anyway, here is a video put together from our time at the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin Texas.

I’m very excited about the upcoming F1 season kickoff.  Anyone else?

FIA W Series

During our weekend photographing the 2021 FIA Formula 1 U.S. Grand Prix, we also got a chance to cover the FIA Formula 4 and FIA W Series.  The W Series is a race league setup only for women drivers.  I enjoyed watching and photographing them and the Formula 4 activities.  Here are a few of my photos of the W Series….very talented drivers in this league.  It’s only a matter of time before some of them show up in Formula 1.

Scuderia Alpha Tauri

Below are a few photos I captured of the Scuderia Alpha Tauri Formula 1 Team at the 2021 FIA Formula 1 US Grand Prix.  The Alpha Tauri drivers are Pierre Gasly (#10) and Yuki Tsunoda (#22).  They are the sister team to Red Bull Racing.  Yuki is a rookie F1 driver and is just trying to figure it all out.  Gasly is an extremely talented driver who gets the most out of his car.  He often challenges the major teams (Mercedes and Red Bull) even though he has a substandard car and technology.

Carlos Sainz

Today’s post is of Carlos Sainz at the 2021 FIA Formula 1 US Grand Prix which took place at the Circuit Of The Americas (Austin Texas).  Carlos drives for Scuderia Ferrari along with Charles LeClerc.  They are currently 6th (LeClerc) and 7th (Sainz) in the standings for the 2021 Driver’s Championship.

I hope you don’t mind I got a little arty with this photo edit.

St. Joseph's Catholic Church

This little beautiful church is surrounded on three sides by a huge mall in downtown San Antonio Texas.  The only side not blocked by the mall from the street.  From the outside, this church looks like any other around the country.  But when you go inside, you find this exceptionally decorated temple.  Just beautiful.

YO Ranch

Outside of Austin Texas in a small town, is a place called the YO Ranch.  This is the lobby of this unique hotel.  My favorite parts of the hotel lobby are the chandeliers.  They are made up of dozens of cattle brands of all shapes and sizes.  I don’t know if they were made for the lights or if the cattle brands were all collected to be used for the lights.  Anyway, I thought they were interesting.

Texas Sunset

I took this photo during my last trip to Texas.  I had some free time and climbed up this large hill to capture this view.  I sat up there for hours just watching the sun fall, set, and disappear.  I loved this weird tree growing out of the rock trying hard to survive.  So I included it in the foreground.  I also liked the contrast of the old rough tree compared to the modern bridge.  Anyway, enjoy the photo and have a great weekend.

Austin At Dusk

I took this photo overlooking the Colorado River last fall.  I climbed up the hill and parked myself there for a few hours watching the sun go down.  I researched this spot in advance and it didn’t disappoint me with its' beautiful view.

Lamar Blvd Bridge - Colorado River

Tonight for you, I present the Lamar Blvd Bridge from downtown Austin Texas.   It’s right next to the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge, which is the reason I went to this spot on the Colorado River.  Once I got there, I liked the Lamar Bridge better and took a number of photos of it….but don’t you worry, I took photos of the pedestrian bridge as well.  I just didn’t like it as well as this bridge.   Have a great Wednesday.

360 Loop

Earlier this year, I got a chance to travel to Austin Texas.  I’ve never been there before and I’ll admit now that the city was very nice.  The University of Texas is in the middle of the city, everything was clean and nice.  The Texas State Capital building was amazing as well.  I always find it interesting what characteristics cities have…and they do have them.  Cultures, trends, feelings, etc…  Every city seems to have a “vibe” to it.  Well, Austin had a young, start up, healthy, high-energy vibe.  The general population seemed to have an average age younger then many cities, probably due to the location of the University of Texas.  It is a “start up” location with lots of new IT companies.  Lastly, there were more joggers in that city then I’ve ever seen in one place without an official race or event taking place.  It felt like you couldn’t live in that city without being a jogger.

Well anyway, I did my normal thing.  I had a list of locations I scouted in advance that I wanted to see and photograph.  My first night there, I went to the northwestern side of the city to climb this bluff to watch the sunset and photograph this spot.  I thought it would be cool with the Colorado River, 360 Loop (highway) bridge and the vehicle light trails.

The location didn’t disappoint me.  What did surprise me is how many other people were up there to watch the sunset as well.  In retrospect, I shouldn’t have been surprised.  If I can find out about it from my computer in Pittsburgh, the locals must all know about it as well.  Silly me.  So I got some great photos pre, during and after sunset.  I hope you have a great Thanksgiving Eve and Holiday tomorrow.

Riverwalk

Sunday night and everywhere across the country people are bummed about going back to work on Monday.  Unfortunately, we didn’t see any sun this weekend as predicted by the weatherman.  Now it looks like we’ll get sun on Monday while everyone is at work.  So I pulled a photo out of the picture vault from a trip I made to San Antonio Texas a few years ago.   I got thinking about sun and immediately thought of Texas fun.

This was taken on the Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio.  If you’ve been there before, you know what a wonderful place this is.  Most people see the Riverwalk around the loop in the shopping, hotel and bar district.  On this trip I also went for a number of runs towards the south along the river and got a chance to see some amazing neighborhoods with renovated old estates.  If you haven’t seen this part of the Riverwalk, I highly recommend it.

This photo was taken on the north loop of the Riverwalk near Omni Watermark Hotel and Spa.
