Tulum

Tulum has exploded in popularity over the last five years.  It’s amazing how Instagram can do good things, although there are negative items that come from social media as well.  IG’s influence has driven a increase in tourism to Tulum that’s improved the local economy.  Of course, it has driven up the price going to there as well.

Pool View

Today’s photo is from the Grand Bahia Principe Akumal near Tulum Mexico.  As I shared with you before, the drone police (security guard) made me put it away.  Apparently, it’s scary for everyone that a drone is flying 400 feet above their head.  Well, I got tons of photos before he came over and this is one of the many beauties I captured.

Resort Pool

I think I should switch careers to become a full-time resort and destination photographer.  What do you think?  I could travel all over the world capturing beautiful images of amazing resorts and facilities.  Sounds great, I just don’t think anyone will pay me to do that…..  Oh well, dream time is over….back to reality.

Magical Morning

I was fairly lazy on our last trip to Mexico, but I did get up one morning for the sunrise.  Thankfully, I got an amazing show that morning.  Here is one of many photos I took starting about an hour before sunrise going about 30 minutes past the sun coming up.  As you can see, it was a magical morning.

Tulum

About an hour and a half drive south of Cancun is the Tulum Mayan ruins.  This site is one of hundreds…maybe thousands across Central America.  Most of the sites are buried under the jungle and haven’t been touched in something like….oh Mayan time.  Anyway, this specific site is a Mexican archaeological site that you can tour.  What’s unique about it is the fact it sits right on the cliffs overlooking the beach.

We had a great time exploring this site doing our best to take it all in and ignore the other tourists.  I captured some great photos and enjoyed the day with MJ.

Snack Shack

While in Mexico, I spent less time than normal shooting photos.  I just needed some down time from everything.  From work, stress, the Internet, etc…  So I took some photos, but probably only 25% of the total I would normally take.   I went out one night after dinner to capture some pics.  Tonight’s post is from that photo walk.  This is the resort poolside snack shack with a full moon above it.  I love the sky in this photo.

Palm Tree Reflections

Another photo from the Grand Bahia Principle resort near Tulum Mexico.  I took this photo this yesterday morning just after the sunrise, but before the morning shadows disappeared.  We’ve had a great time, but if I was rating this resort…… well, I’d rather not say.  Anyway, I always enjoy getting up early on vacation to catch sunrise photos and I try to get creative so that it isn’t always the same standard view of the ocean with a large ball of orange in the distance.

Table For Two?

Tonight’s photo is an exclusive table for two on the beach in Tulum Mexico.  The thatch roof above it looks like it could fall in at any moment, but it didn’t collapse while I was standing there.   This was such a great trip, I wish I was back there again.

Here are links to some other pictures from this trip:  Lagoon, Beach Sunrise, & Cave Diving

Photo Setup:

Of course, I made it to this spot before the privileged couple showed up for their reservation.  I used my Nikon D800 with the 14-24mm wide-angle lens setup on a tripod.  This was taken in Aperture mode at f11 with a 5-bracket set (+2, +1, 0, -1, -2).  The exposure times ranged from 1 second to 15 seconds.  I created the HDR picture in Photomatix Pro and completed some minor edits in Photoshop CS6.

Thanksgiving Day Blues

I have nothing to complain about and am very thankful for everything in my life.  That said, I can't help but be bummed as I watched the Detroit Lions lose their 9th straight Thanksgiving day game in a row on a terrible call that cost them a TD and lost opportunities.  I've enjoyed visiting with family, eating turkey and relaxing today.

So instead of being depressed about another Lions loss, I am going to think happy thoughts.  I'll reflect back on our trip to Mexico when I took this picture.  I captured some great sun rises on this trip and this picture is an example of what every morning looked like at our resort.
