Here is a throwback photo for you. I took this photo during a Shutter Rush weekend at the very beginning of 2020. Jason, Jake and I spent the weekend photographing parts of Baltimore, creating digital content and capped the weekend off by covering the Ravens-Steelers game. When it was all done, we put the photos and videos together to create the “Shutter Rush – Baltimore Edition” documentary which is still available on Amazon Prime. This photo is from our time in West Baltimore. We found this graffiti alley and played with steel wool.
Shutter Rush at Hvitserkur
During our Iceland trip, MJ and I stopped at this rock formation on our 32nd anniversary. The locals believe this was a troll that was caught in the sunlight which converted it into this rock formation.
Either way, I made sure everyone knew Shutter Rush was there…. Note: I didn’t cover anything on this sign that wasn’t already covered by prior stickers….
Sun Reflection
Yesterday I posted a drone photo from Miami Beach. Today I have a drone photo I took from downtown Pittsburgh. I took this last August right before dusk with the sun shining off the glass buildings. Pittsburgh has a nice downtown area.
Shutter Rush Piano
The most common item I find left behind in abandoned buildings are pianos…. I can’t imagine why!! This is from a performing arts theater in Pittsburgh. I captured this during the filming of Shutter Rush - Steel City, which is in production now to be released on Amazon Prime in the future.
Nanuk Cases
Amazing camera and weapon cases from @nanukcases. Starting from the top going to the bottom you have the tiny (at least compared to the others) Nanuk 310, which is great for holding small items. Then a bunch of camera cases 935 (gray color), 935 (orange version), 955 (black) and an orange colored 960 case. And of course, the Nanuk 990 designed for holding an AR15 is standing up on the left.
If you’re looking for a hard sided case to protect your gear (cameras, laptops, weapons, drones, stabilizers, first-aid, etc…) you can’t find a better-quality brand to purchase. This best quality for the best price. There is a better-known brand, but the price and quality aren’t as good.
You can find them all here: https://nanuk.com/
I'm Not Okay
I’m posting this photo today, because it reflects how I feel right now…. I think I’m just getting tired and it’s been a long year for all of us. I’ll be better tomorrow.
By the way, I captured this photo in August when the Shutter Rush Team (Jason, Blair and I) explored an abandoned performing arts theater in Pittsburgh. The footage from that weekend explore will be in the next Shutter Rush film (currently in production). The first two documentary films are currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
Pink Piano
Here is the famous Pink Piano in Gary Indiana. We went to Gary last March so it wasn’t that long ago, but I can’t remember the name of this abandoned building. Regardless, this is a common spot for Urbex Photographers. We included some footage from this location in our Amazon Prime “Shutter Rush – City of Abandonment” film (available now if you’re interested).

I Am Free Now
I took this photo in March (right before COVID blew up our world) on our urban exploration trip to Gary Indiana. As you know by now, that was the last @TeamShutterRush trip which resulted in our 2nd film on Amazon Prime. This specific location was an abandoned classroom.

St. Mary's Mercy Hospital
Today’s post is from an abandoned hospital in Gary Indiana. I captured this during the filming of “Shutter Rush – City of Abandonment”. This abandoned hospital is in very rough shape. Interestingly, the other half was converted into a City of Gary Police department. So, we were careful not to draw attention to ourselves. I think this was supply storeroom for their surgical rooms.

Gary Sparks
No, this isn’t a fireworks photo from this holiday weekend. This photo was created with steel wool inside the boiler room of an abandoned school in Gary Indiana. Jason was spinning while Blair, Jake and I captured photos. This is one of my photos from that moment, which was part of the great Shutter Rush weekend. You can see the documentary of that weekend on Amazon Prime.

Help
If you took the time to watch our new film (Shutter Rush – City of Abandonment) on Amazon Prime and liked it, please do us a favor and give it 5 Stars on Amazon.
City of Abandonment
I got some great news today!! The 2nd episode of “Shutter Rush” was released on Amazon Prime. You can search for it by name “Shutter Rush – City of Abandonment” or by my name (Brook Ward). The second episode was recorded in mid-March, right before COVID-19 hit the United States and was recorded in Gary Indiana. I was a day late arriving because of COVID work requirements. The guys got a jump start waiting on me. While exploring a ton of abandoned buildings we filmed our experience and took a bunch of photographs.
Big thanks to my Shutter Rush partners Jason Pohuski (@jasonpohuski) and Jake Mysliwczyk (@jakemysliwczykphoto) for all their work on both films. Jason has done the bulk of the editing, while also providing tons of energy, crazy video/photo ideas and continues to drive us on these projects. Jake helps edit while bringing great ideas, creativity and amazing photos (and some piano skills…check that out in the film). I’m the old guy of the group, who is just happy to tag along and I hope I add a little value.
Regardless, I’m proud to be associated with these wonderful partners. I also want to thank Blair Ward (@fordrsfan), Mike Criswell (@mcriswellphoto) and Bob Lussier (@lussierphoto) for joining us on the Gary Indiana trip. Their friendship and contribution to the film is appreciated.
Please check it out on Amazon Prime and enjoy!!
Gary Auditorium
Here is another photo from our Shutter Rush road trip to Gary Indiana. This is an abandoned school auditorium with Blair below me setting up his camera.

Broken Window
I captured this beauty during our Gary Indiana exploration of abandoned buildings. This is from inside an abandoned school…honestly, I don’t remember which school. I liked this view with the graffiti through the broken glass.

Welcome to Baltimore
Tonight, I’m sharing a photo I captured in Baltimore while we filmed “Shutter Rush – Baltimore Edition.” Our film crew was walking around the Baltimore Harbor taking photos and video until after sunset. Afterward, walking back to the hotel, we came upon this spot, which I almost missed since our back was to it as we walked down the street. Somehow it caught my eye and the rest is history.

Graffiti Alley Sparks
When we (Jason, Jake and I) filmed “Shutter Rush – Baltimore Edition” we captured some steel wool photos and video inside the famous Graffiti Alley. This is an unedited cut of footage that didn’t make it into the film. This is Jason spinning and I filmed this video. By the way, big thanks to Nanuk Cases and Under Armour for sponsoring the film. “Shutter Rush” is available on Amazon Prime.
Under Armour Offices
I captured this drone video during the filming of “Shutter Rush – Baltimore Edition”, which is now playing on Amazon Prime. We went to capture photos and video at Under Armour’s Corporate Offices since they sponsored us for this project.
It was a fun project to work on with @jasonpohuski and @jakemysliwczykphoto. Teaser…we filmed a 2nd Episode in Gary Indiana recently to be released late spring/early summer.
Contrasting Light
I’m keeping it short tonight. I captured this beauty in the basement of the abandoned U.S. Post Office in Gary Indiana.

Shutter Rush - Released
Back in early February, I mentioned an exciting project I was involved in with @jasonpohuski and @jakemysliwczykphoto. We completed a road trip to Baltimore to capture photos around the city and of the Steelers vs Ravens football game. We recorded the entire experience and Jason created this documentary, which was just released on Amazon Prime this week. You can find it by searching for “Shutter Rush – Baltimore Edition”.
Please do me a favor, go out to Amazon and give it a 5 Star rating….even if you hate it…..but I think you’ll like it. I’d really appreciate it.
More on Shutter Rush...
I shared the news on our new project yesterday called “Shutter Rush – Baltimore Edition” (release date to be determined). As part of yesterday’s post, I shared a thumbnail photo for the film. Today, I’m sharing the second thumbnail.
I’m looking forward to the film release to see what kind of reaction we get. Until then, I’ll just have to wait.
