Burgh’s Smithfield Bridge

It’s been a while since I did a photo walk in downtown Pittsburgh.  This photo is from just before the pandemic.  It is weird how time seems to have changed speed during COVID.  Some things appear to be going faster and some slower.  The pandemic has negatively impacted my photography opportunities.

Regardless, I always liked this photo with the city bus passing by as I took the exposure.

Pittsburgh Fun

Back on November 19th, I shared the first image from this photo shoot.  Here are the rest of the photos from that night and a behind the scenes video.

Rainbow Road

MJ and I drove about 45 minutes out of our way to visit this village.  Seydisfjordur is a super cool little town isolated by itself on the other side of a mountain at the end of a fjord.  As you cross over the mountain you go from summer weather with green vegetation to snow and back down through what seemed like dozens of switchbacks to summer weather again.  Once you arrive, this wonderful village sits there by itself.  The village is sandwiched between the steep mountain face and the ocean.

Honestly, the village is amazing.  They have turned this old fishing village into a travel destination.  It’s very clean, unique, pretty setting with nice bars, restaurants, stores, and other attractions.  If I could go back in time to redo anything about our Iceland trip, I’d change our travel arrangements so that we stayed the night in this town.  More time in this spot would have been great.

Anyway, they have this cool photographic street that leads right up to the church.  The Icelandic people are very inclusive and embrace everyone including LGBTQ+ members of their society.  To the point, they are proud to create and display symbols like this…. It doesn’t require Pride Month for a few to show their support.  Iceland supports the LGBTQ+ members every day, including in this tiny rural village….  It was spending a little time with people who are welcoming to everyone…unlike the fair amount of hate we have in the United States.

Rays of Sunshine

Arriving at downtown Pittsburgh from this bridge is one of the few great city entrances.  You can’t see the city driving towards it due to Mt. Washington and then you enter the tunnel, which is maybe a mile lone (not totally sure on that distance).  As soon as you exit the tunnel, you are immediately on Fort Pitt Bridge and the city explodes into view.  I’ve never found anything like it in any other city.

Michigan Autumn

I took this photo last fall during our Michigan wine trail trip.  We experienced great fall colors while we were there.  This cool little road is actually the exit off one of the vineyards.  So many great wineries in the Traverse City area.

Tunnel of Trees

MJ and I are supposed to be in Bermuda…..but COVID messed that up, like it messed up all of 2020.  So, we decided to get away regardless….  Pure Michigan it is!!  We traveled the Lake Michigan coast.  This photo is from inside the Tunnel of Trees which is north of Harbor Springs.

Shutter Rush

As some of you know, I covered the Steelers’ last game of the season in Baltimore (along with most of their home games).  I can’t believe I’ve been photographing the Steelers from the sidelines for 8 years now.

Anyway, I traveled with two other great sports photographers @jasonpohuski and @jakemysliwczykphoto.  We made a weekend out of it…traveled together, photographed many cool spots in the city and covered the game together.  As part of that adventure, we photographed of course, but we also captured much of it via video.  All that was put together by Jason into a feature film called “Shutter Rush – Baltimore Edition”.  Jason even got @underarmour to sponsor this project.  Big thanks to them for all their support and gear.  I don’t know when, but it sounds like this film will be released on Amazon Prime and other major streaming services in the near future.  Once that happens, I’ll give you an update.  In the meantime, we’re actively planning our next trip to have fun and capture photos and video for the next Shutter Rush edition…   More to come.

Bratislava Sunset

I hope you had a great weekend.  I enjoyed my weekend hanging out with MJ and Blair.  We did some yard work, some chores and took Blair to the airport….  Nothing special, just a nice relaxing weekend with the family.

Tonight’s photo is from the magical Bratislava Slovakia.  I loved this little city.  In this photo you can see the UFO Bridge (called that due to the odd-looking observation deck), Bratislava Castle and the Danube River.

Fun In The City

Apparently, I’m not a very clever individual.  I struggle more times then I’d like to admit coming up with things to say when I type up these blog posts.  Maybe it is because I work on them after long hours at work…or maybe I’m just not very clever.

Therefore, you get boring posts…..  I don’t really have anything clever to say tonight either.  I took this photo on the Smithfield Bridge in Pittsburgh.  If you haven’t seen it, I believe it is the most underrated bridge in and around the city.

Game Night

Short post tonight….. I took this photo a few weeks ago in downtown Pittsburgh while the Pirates were playing the Athletics.  It seems like everyone takes photos of these bridges aimed the opposite direction (back towards the city).  I don’t see many aimed toward the stadium…..  So here goes.

Andy Warhol Bridge

What should I share with you tonight???  Honestly, I’m probably not in a good frame of mind to share much without sounding negative.  Therefore, I’ll just leave you with this nice photo of the Pittsburgh skyline with the Andy Warhol Bridge in the foreground.  That’s it.  I’m out!!

Athens Alley

I’ve had this photo sitting on my hard drive waiting for its time to shine.  I guess tonight is the night.  I took this photo in some random alley in Athens near the Acropolis.  Probably about a five-minute walk away.  I just liked this spot and the view down this little back alley.

Lombard Street

I’ve loved my past trips to San Francisco.  What a great city!  The last time I was there, I went to Lombard Street on two difference occasions.  This specific time, it was late at night.  I was basically the only person there.  The other time was during daylight and it was packed with cars and tourist.  I liked having it to myself the best.

National Road

MJ and I went over to Wheeling West Virginia a couple of months ago to explore the area.   It isn’t very far from us, but I never go over there.  All my focus is on our local area and Pittsburgh.  I think that was the 2nd time I’ve been to Wheeling in the 8 years we’ve lived in Pennsylvania.  Anyway, this is the Wheeling Suspension Bridge which is part of the original National Road.

Rachel Carson Bridge

Two nights ago, Blair and I spent some time in Pittsburgh capturing some photos.  Today’s post is from that photo walk.  This is the Rachel Carson Bridge about 30 minutes prior to sunset.   Pittsburgh has a number of beautiful bridges.  At least I think so.  What about you?

31st Street Bridge

I need to get out and take some more Pittsburgh photos soon.  Believe or not, I’m running out of photos to process and post from my great city.   I took this photo last fall on a photo walk with Brad and Dave.  I didn’t get a ton of wonderful photos that night, but I had a good time.  This one was taken just past sunset.
