Christmas Eve Bando Processing

It was a nice quiet day at home today with the family.  We did a few things around the house, had a great meal, built some Legos (holiday tradition at our house) and I processed a bunch of photos from one of our 2017 urban explorations.  It was nice to just have a little down time to catch up on some photos.  Anyway, I found this image as I was processes these photos.  This is a stairwell from an abandoned nursing dormitory.

Carrie Furnace Stack

Today a few of us rented the Carrie Furnace so we’d have the place to ourselves to get access to photograph this great place.  It is the last remaining blast furnace left in the Pittsburgh area from the steel industry that has been gone for a long time.  It was originally part of the Homestead Steel Works.  It was built in 1884 and closed in 1982.  Back in the day, it produced over 1,000 tons of iron per day that was sent across the hot metal bridge to another plant that turned it into steel.  This photo is on the backside of the plant looking up at some of the metal structure.

The Touchdown That Wasn’t

This play happened in the first quarter of the Steelers vs. Browns game yesterday at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.  I was covering the game from the sideline for a local newspaper.  I am very blessed this year, since the paper got me the entire season sideline media pass.

Anyway, I was in the back corner of the end score and it appeared I was in the exact right spot to capture the touchdown.  And I was, except for the fact that LeGarrette Blount (#27 – Steelers Running back) didn’t make the catch.  By the way, on the next play, the Steelers scored on the opposite side of the end zone…..  That’s football photography for you.

Regardless, I really liked this photo.  It’ll never make the cover of Sports Illustrated or even get used by a newspaper.  But I liked the way the picture has a 3D appearance (very little editing…more on that in a second), you can see the players fighting for the ball and the ref is in the background watching closely.

Editing…. I know what you’re thinking.  That I edited the photo a bunch to make it appear 3D.  Not true….  It was so bright in the afternoon sun, that I lowered the exposure slightly and then did a little cropping.  Otherwise, this is right out of the camera.

Now…I’ll going to post this and enjoy the rest of Monday Night Football.  Go Lions!!!!
