WVU vs Drexel

The world has been spinning very fast lately. So, I haven’t been posting here much. Sorry!!

Here are a are some photos from yesterday’s WVU vs. Drexel game.

Vizio BCS Football National Championship Game

So I’ll give you my projection now….big shocker…I will pick Florida State University with their 2013 Heisman Trophy Winner Jameis Winston to win (34 FSU to 20 Auburn).  I just can’t see Auburn beating FSU in this game.  Auburn is good, but they’ve gotten lucky through the year as well and luck runs out.  FSU just out played everyone all year long.  Below are a few pictures I took of Jameis Winston on their first game of the year against Pitt.  Enjoy the Championship Game.

Pitt vs UNC at Heinz Field

Well this was almost a touchdown catch, but he dropped it.  Regardless, I liked the picture.  So day one of my big football weekend is done.  I photographed this game from the sideline and will do the same at the NFL Steelers vs. Lions tomorrow.  I am very excited about tomorrow’s game because the Lions only play in Pittsburgh once every 12 years.  I can’t wait to see Calvin Johnson, Bush, and the rest of the Lions in what I hope is a win for them.  I’ll post some photos from that game either Sunday or Monday night.  For now, you can see more photos from the Pitt vs. UNC game at this link: http://brookward.smugmug.com/Sports/NCAA/Pitt-vs-UNC-2013

Pitt vs. FSU

Well, my football season started Monday night with Pitt getting killed by FSU.  Pitt looked rusty (that’s being nice) and so was I.  I don’t know what the deal was, but I couldn’t seem to get a good shot to save my life.  I was either in the wrong spot, didn’t have the right settings, or someone would get in the way.   Regardless, it wasn’t my best photography night.  With that said, here were the highlights of the night....at the bottom there is a link to the full set of photos from the game.

Pittsburgh’s only
touchdown of the game was a pass to junior wide receiver #82 Manasseh Garner
who dove for the score.

It’s possible I saw the
2013 Heimen Trophy winner….FSU’s #5 Jameis Winston threw for 356 yards and 4
touchdowns along with 1 running touchdown.  He was a beast and was amazing as a Freshman in his first
college game.

#8 Devonta Freeman RB JR –
He had a great game, when FSU gave him the ball…..5.8 yards per carry.

Maybe the best part of the
game had nothing to do with the game.
Pitt retired Larry Fitzgerald’s number during the halftime.  I got a chance to meet him later that
night.  He was a very nice
guy.

Football Is Finally Here!!!

MJ and I had a great trip to Michigan this weekend to visit our families.  It was a wonderful trip and we enjoyed visiting with everyone.  We drove back tonight for two reasons.

1.     To get some things done around our house on Monday before the holiday weekend is complete

2.     So I could get ready for the Monday night University of Pittsburgh vs. Florida State University football game.

I have a list of games I plan to photograph this year, both college and NFL.  This is the first assignment on the list.  Pitt is launching its entry into the ACC by opening their season on national television (ESPN) against a great FSU football team.  I doubt Pitt can win this, but I’ll cheer for them away.  Regardless of the outcome, I plan to have a great time shooting the game from the sideline.  My goals for shooting the game:

1.     Don’t get hurt….I’ll be dodging players and the football

2.     Have fun!!

3.     Get some great photos

Preparing for tomorrow’s game, I looked back through some of the football pictures I took last season.  I came across this photo and thought I would share it with you.  This is of Cameron Saddler, who was a senior wide receiver for Pitt last year (his home town is Monroeville PA…which is right outside Pittsburgh).  I took this picture of him during the 2012 Pitt vs. Temple game last season.  Look for me as I run for my life tomorrow night.

Syracuse vs. Pitt

In honor of the NCAA National Championship Men’s Basketball game tonight, I am posting one of my college basketball shots from earlier this season.  This is from the Syracuse vs. Pitt game at the Peterson Center in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh.  Pitt won this game, even though it appeared as if Syracuse was the better team that day.

Both teams made the NCAA Tournament, with much different results.  Pitt lost in the first round, while the Orange Men lost in the Semi-Final game to my home state Wolverines.

Neither team had the season ending they wanted, but both had what I would consider successful seasons.  So regardless of who you want to win, remember they are all winners and cheer for the Maize and Blue.

NCAA College Football Bowl Season

With the regular college football season behind us, all that’s left are the Bowl games.  I still wish we had a playoff system versus the current system, which leaves us wondering each year who is really the best team in football.  Regardless of which team you cheer for, follow, or hate; I hope you have a good Bowl Season (otherwise know as the holiday season).  Here is a picture of University of Pittsburgh’s quarterback Tino Suneri.  Tino is a senior (hometown – Pittsburgh) and has led Pitt as the starting quarterback for the last three years.

In the 2012 regular season, he threw for 3,103 yards, 66.5% completion rate, 19 TDs, 2 INTs, and a quarterback rating of 154.9.  Pitt didn’t have the success they expected this season and they started off rough (2012 record of 6-6), but they finished strong enough to make it into the BBVA Compass Bowl against Ole Miss on January 5th.

I took this picture on September 15, 2012 (Pitt vs. Virginia Tech) with a Nikon D800, Aperture Priority 4.8f, 550mm (400mm 2.8f lens with 1.4x tele-extender) and 1/8000 of a second exposure.

P.S. Part 2 of Common HDR Photography Questions will be posted soon.
