Phoenix Center

Last fall while I was in Michigan, I spent an afternoon with an old friend photographing some spots around Pontiac.  We hit up this spot, which is an abandoned concert venue.  Although you’d never know this spot hasn’t been used for years.  Someone is paying good money to keep in in great shape even though it isn’t in use.  It looked like they could hold a rock concert the next day…..  So it isn’t your normal grungy looking abandoned location.  But it was cool exploring this spot.

Carnegie Music Hall

Here is an oldie.  I took this photo back in 2012 of the Carnegie Music Hall in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh.  I processed it but never shared it with the world.  Last night I was digging through my files and found it…but I didn’t like it.  So I took my original 7 exposures from that day and re-processed it last night.  I like it much better.

You can see some previous photos from that day at the links below:

Carnegie Music Hall Lobby

The main Carnegie Museums sit in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh.  Part of the museum includes the Carnegie Music Hall, which is a remarkable Italian Renaissance architectural design commissioned by Andrew Carnegie.  Construction was started in 1891 and it has been used for performance ever since.

Last spring, I called, emailed, and bugged the Events Coordinator until she allowed Brad, Dave, MJ and I access to photograph the inside of this amazing building.  Tonight’s photo is of the main lobby outside of the music all.  They had it setup for a wedding reception later in the day, which is a popular venue for receptions and events.

I captured this photo with a 3 exposure auto-bracketed set of images (+1, 0, -1) and created the HDR image with Photomatix Pro.  If you ever get a chance to visit this location, please do so.  It is worth the time to walk the facility.   The attached museums are also great, but expect to spend more then a full day and you’ll still miss items.   For more information on the Carnegie Museums, click HERE.

Carnegie Music Hall 2nd Floor Lobby

I got a great opportunity last spring to shoot the inside of Carnegie Music Hall in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh.  Following that photo shoot, I posted (prior to starting this blog) a number of pictures that you can see here:

Last night I was looking through some old shots and came across tonight’s post.  I had forgotten about it and realized how much I liked this picture.  I hope you like it as much as I do.

This was a 3-bracket set (+1, 0, -1) taken in the corner of the hallway looking down both directions.  They had some junk in the way down one direction, so I removed it with Photoshop.  Otherwise, this is how this wonderful facility looks.
