Great Bay
It has been a few years since my last visit to St. Martin. I took this photo on the beach looking out at the Great Bay. Amazing location!! I’ve had this photo processed and sitting on my hard drive for a long time…. It was just waiting for it’s time… Guess what? It is time.

I hope you have a great Martin Luther King Jr. Day. With all the ugliness in our world right now (you know who and what I mean), it’s nice to know that Dr. King and people like Dr. King have been and are among us. He pushed for nonviolence, racial equality, understanding, and eliminating poverty while maintaining his principles that everyone regardless of color or creed are equal members of the human family. There is a reason why he is the only non-president to have a national holiday dedicated in his honor and non-president memorialized on the Great Wall in the United States capital. Everyone from our current President on down to our newest member, can learn from Dr. King.

Simpson Bay Sunset
Today’s blog post if of a sunset from Simpson’s Bay in St. Martin. We had a wonderful time traveling to this island with a few family members. Mother nature treated us to a week full of wonderful sunsets like this one. I took this photo from the beach at our resort. I like the moody feel of this photo and it takes me right back to our time sitting on the beach watching this unfold. Good times, great location.

Umbrellas
I captured this scene on the beach in downtown Philipsburg, St. Maarten. What a great little city. I want to live in a city where one block from the main street you have a world class beach, sun, and amazing year round weather.
Philipsburg's Boardwalk Beach
If you’ve ever been to the Dutch capital of St. Maarten (Philipsburg), you’ve probably been to the wonderful beach downtown on their great Boardwalk. I took this picture a week ago, while MJ was shopping in some of their wonderful stores on Front Street.
Not only is this a great beach (wide, smooth sand), but the water is crystal clear and you have great views out towards the cruise ships. It’s a wonderful spot!!

KLM Close Call
We enjoyed a nice week in St. Maarten. One of our excursions during the week was to visit the Sunset Bar at the end of the airport runway. As you can see, the runway starts at the beach and we watched a number of big and small planes land. This spot is popular with the locals and tourist because of how close you can get to the planes. The KLM flight into St. Maarten is the largest flight that lands here and it barely fits. It is the “must see” flight if you’re heading to this spot.
It didn’t get the best weather for this excursion, but we got what we came for, which was the close encounter with the landing planes.

MLK & Washington Monument
It is almost time for my annual pilgrimage into Washington D.C. for the Baldrige Examiner training. While I am there, I try to get into the city to photograph as much as possible. That’s my plan this year as well, along with having dinner with my cousin Eric. Should be fun.
This photo is from last year’s trip. As you can tell, this is the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial with the Washington Monument in the background.

MLK Monument
This is a 7-exposure HDR photo I created from my Washington DC trip last spring. I had to wait around the monument for about an hour to get a time without tourist in the way, walking in front of me, looking at the monument, etc…. Those darn tourist!!! What are they thinking, when they visit these sites and get in my way???? You know it is all about me.

Martin Luther King Jr. Monument
Well it is pretty clear where I took this photo. I have been in the Washington DC area all week for Baldrige Examiner Training. Every night after training ends, I’ve been running into the downtown area to photograph some of the sites. I also had dinner Tuesday night with an old friend (Julie Briggs), her husband Todd, and their daughter Natalie. It was nice catching up with them.
This was my first time at the Martin Luther King Jr. Monument.
