More Detroit Lions

One day after the terrible game between the Steelers and Lions, I have some more photos for you.  These are focused on my Detroit Lions.

Steelers vs Lions

Here are a few photos from today’s game. (Heinz Field – November 14, 2021).  It was a cold, wet, and ugly game.  Neither team desired to win and neither one of them did.

Stafford to Abdullah

Another NFL throwback for you.  Here is a photo I took at Ford Field in 2018 of Matthew Stafford handing the ball to Ameer Abdullah.  I don’t remember for sure, but I think my Lions lost this game.  Not that the Lions losing is an unusual event.

Flying Bell

Tonight, I have a 2017 flashback for you.  As a Detroit Lions fan, I loved photographing the Steelers at Ford Field.  I got to the game about 7 hours early, just to explore the stadium, and photograph it without any people around.  I captured more Lions photos then I did Steelers photos….but that was to be expected. Of all the photos from that day, I’ve always liked this one of Le’Veon Bell flying through the air.

Ford Field

I love my Detroit Lions, but I can honestly say we’ll never see anything called the “NFL Super Bowl Detroit Lions” in this building or any other.  We won’t see any banners hanging from this ceiling more recent then the 1957 Championship banner for many, many years.  Probably long after I’m gone from this world.  So the question is why does anyone, including me, continue to cheer for this franchise?  I don’t have an answer to that question…..  They’re just my team…  It is, what is it!!

Ford Field

I want my Detroit Lions to win so badly.  And I don’t mean just a game, I want a deep run into the Playoffs or dare I say a Super Bowl win.  Is that too much to ask for?  Lions fans have suffered for far too long.  I understand that the Lions troubles are tied directly to ownership and poor management decisions for years….  Poor draft choices, coaching decisions, selection of coaches, poor trades, etc….. but fans like myself shouldn’t have to deal with this ongoing pain.  At least I don’t think so.  So we need a little football magic to kick in this upcoming off-season and run through March of 2020…..

In the meantime, Lions fans just have to deal with the fact we have a nice stadium and a poorly performing organization.  I took this photo last season, when the Steelers traveled to Detroit.  I got to the game 5 hours in advance to photograph the stadium.

Splash!!

I must have taken a couple hundred photos at this exact spot capturing the waves as they crashed up on the rocks behind the sea lions trying to capture the perfect moment when the entire scene came together.  I doubt I captured the perfect image, but it turned out pretty good.  In case you’re wondering, this spot is at the southern tip of Cape Peninsula in Western Cape South Africa.

End Zone

Last football season was filled with lots of great experiences for me.  The highlight for me was my road trip to Ford Field in Detroit Michigan.  I loved getting a chance to photograph the game, but I also enjoyed capturing photos of the facility long before the game started.  Right now, the country is focused on NHL playoffs, NBA and the NCAA March Madness, which is fine.  But personally, I’m ready for the football season to start.

Matthew S

Well like normal, the Detroit Lions are at home again during the playoffs.  I have no idea what Matthew is doing in the off season, but I hope the Lions are preparing to perform better next year.

I took this photo last October prior to the Lions vs. Steelers game.  I thought it was interesting that they had a radio broadcast playing (very loudly) throughout the stadium when I took this photo.  The radio announcers were very critical of Matthew’s last performance.  It had to be tough listening to that negative feedback while he tried to prepare and warm up for the game later that day.  I don’t think I could have ignored it if I was in his shoes.

Corner

As I probably shared with you in the past, I spent many hours exploring Ford Field prior to the Lions vs. Steelers game.  I took photos from every angle, location and floor.  I think the security and stadium crew thought I was weird, but I don’t care.  I was having fun.  This photo was taken about 4 hours prior to the start of the game.

Thankful

Well, it’s Thanksgiving holiday in the United States today.  I’m thankful for a number of things….

My wife, son, life, work, the Neighbors (you know who you are and you know why), peers, my health, my parents, in-laws, extended family, friends, photo friends and of course the Detroit Lions.  Why am I thankful for the Lions?  Good questions, for which I have no real answer.  Maybe because I grew up watching them…  Maybe it’s the fact they give Lions fans hope every year and for which they never deliver on…..  I don’t know, but I am thankful for them.  What can I say, they’re my team.

So here is a photo of Ameer Abdullah, starting running back.  He’s been with the Lions for 3 years after leaving the University of Nebraska.   Hopefully, he'll score 4 touchdowns today.

10 Yard Line

Tonight’s post is a photo I took inside Ford Field prior to the Lions vs. Steelers game.  I explored the stadium for hours before they let the fans into the facility.  I had a wonderful time just taking it all in….

Handoff

I had a great time in Detroit at the Lions vs. Steelers game last Sunday.  As you can imagine, I took a ton of photos….more than I normally would at a Steelers game.  Most of the photos focused on capturing Detroit Lions players.  Tonight, I’m sharing this photo of Matthew Stafford (#9) handing the ball to Ameer Abdullah (#21).  I love the intensity on Stafford’s face.  I also liked the Lions’ uniforms…blue tops on blue bottoms.  What do you think?  Leave a comment below.

Ford Field

Here is my view as of about 30 minutes ago.  I’m here very very early for the 830pm Lions vs. Steelers game.  I wanted lots of time to check out Ford Field, since I’m a lifelong Lions fan.  It was nice being able to walk around before the general admission starts and capture photos of the field prior to people being in the way.  I’m currently getting ready to capture pre-pregame warm ups (street clothes) and then I’ll photograph the pregame warm ups (players in their uniforms), and then the game itself.  Fun Times!!!

Again.... Go Lions!!

Today is the first round of the 2016-2017 NFL Playoffs and my Lions play their game in Seattle today.  Let’s hope they win.  I took this photo of Matthew Stafford when the Lions played in Pittsburgh this season.

Go Lions!!!

So the Lions have clinched a playoff spot this season. I’m hoping they can win tonight at home against the Packers to get a home play off game in the first round.  And…. because I get sick of the Packers always winning.

Let’s hope Matthew Stafford has a huge night.  I took this picture of him at Heinz Field.

TJ Jones Making The Catch

Here is another football photo for you.  I captured this a few weeks ago, when Detroit played Pittsburgh at Heinz Field.  TJ Jones is in his 2nd year in the NFL.  The Lions drafted him as the 189th pick within the 6th round.  Hopefully this former Notre Dame player will bring some magic to the Lions.

Ansah

I think I’m going to start a streak of football photos for a little while here on the blog.  So tonight I’m going to provide you with a photo of the Detroit Lions defensive star… Ezekiel Ansah.  This will be his 4th year in the NFL after playing at BYU in college.  If he played for any other team, he’d be a household name.  But when you play in Detroit, unless you’re Barry Sanders or Calvin Johnson, you’ll be invisible to anyone outside of Detroit.  I took this photo a few weeks ago when Detroit played Pittsburgh in Heinz Field.
