Small series of photos from a past trip to Michigan. I love this little break wall and lighthouse. The sunsets from this spot are usually amazing.
Icebergs in Iceland
Both of our trips to Iceland were amazing. I don’t know if there will be a third, but I’m hoping someday.
I took this photo near Diamond Beach, inside Jokulsarlon Iceberg Lagoon on the southeastern coast of the country. Wonderful spot.
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
I’m sure on Super Bowl Sunday my post should be football related. But I’ve been thinking a bunch about our 2021 Iceland trip. So, you’re getting this photo from the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon on the southeastern side of the country. Great spot!!
Betsie
Today I have a drone photo for you from the Point Betsie Lighthouse on the Lake Michigan coast in northern Michigan. This spot, among many in Michigan, is beautiful. It sits near the village of Frankfort and Crystal Lake.
Gibson's Sunset
Ready for a great lake sunset photo? I took this one last fall while staying at Gibson’s lake cottage in northern Michigan. Huge thanks to them for letting us use the cottage….
Vatnajokull Tongue
Vatanjokull, a huge glacier, takes up a large part of Iceland in the southeastern corner. This specific portion of the glacier, which is called a tongue, was right behind our hotel. Well sort of right behind…more like 4 km down an extremely rough trail that required a 4-wheel drive vehicle.
If you don’t know, a glacier tongue is a small finger shaped portion of a glacier that usually comes down off the mountain. The scale of this tongue and the entire glacier is impossible to understand in this photo. Sometimes a photo just doesn’t do a location justice (think about trying to capture the beauty of the Grand Canyon in a photo). You’ll have to trust me when I say, what you can see in this photo is probably less than 1% of the entire glacier.
Again, you can’t tell from this photo, but there are dozens of icebergs in the water that have broken free from the glacier. I didn’t know either until I piloted the drone over them. The distance from where I took this photo to the icebergs in front of the glacier was just over a mile. I guess that gives you some sense of the scale.
I had this wonderful spot all to myself from about 9pm to 11pm. It wouldn’t surprise me if I was the only one to visit this spot all day…. Just based on the condition of the trail and the location. You could tell it doesn’t get many visitors like Iceland’s more popular spots.
Point Betsie Lighthouse
I finally got around to editing this footage last weekend. I captured this last October in Northern Michigan along the Lake Michigan shore.
Red Light
Here is another drone photo of the South Haven Light on Lake Michigan. I took this photo 40 minutes after sunset last October.
Michigan Autumn
I took this photo last fall during our Michigan wine trail trip. We experienced great fall colors while we were there. This cool little road is actually the exit off one of the vineyards. So many great wineries in the Traverse City area.
Point Betsie
Here is another photo of Point Betsie Lighthouse near Frankfort Michigan. This spot is great. I loved the entire vibe.
South Haven Light
Short post tonight…. Here is an up close view of the South Haven Light via my drone on the Lake Michigan coast.
Cross Village Beach
I love this photo. I love the sky, Lake Michigan water, the beach with the fallen trees, and just the mood of the photo. MJ and I explored this beach following lunch at the Old World Café (by the way, it’s a great restaurant) in Cross Village Michigan. This was our second visit to Cross Village this year. On our first visit, we didn’t drive down to the beach. I’m so glad we did on this 2nd visit.
Burt Lake Sunset
Nice little time-lapse sunset video from Burt Lake Michigan…. I captured this in 2020, during a time when we all need a little sunshine.
South Haven Sunset
Here is another perspective from my time in South Haven Michigan…. I had a good time on this chilly night taking tons of photos as the sunset through dusk and into night…. As you can see, I captured this a little before sunset.
South Haven Light
I know….another Michigan photo. This one is from South Haven Michigan. MJ was amazing and sat out in the cold for over an hour waiting for me to capture sunset and post-sunset photos of this light at the end of the pier. I got this one with the drone from a perspective not normally seen.

Point Betsie Lighthouse
During our Michigan trip (supposed to be in Bermuda….thanks COVID!!), anyway….MJ and I took a little road trip over to this super cool lighthouse west of Traverse City. The lighthouse is on the Lake Michigan shore also close to Crystal Lake. I took a ton of photos from many perspectives (south side, west side, from the ground, from the air, etc…). I’ll share more later, but I loved this close up version from the drone.
With this perspective you can only see the top of the lighthouse, but the rest of the tower and building will be shared in future photos.

Burt Lake Sunset
Short post tonight….. I didn’t sleep well last night and put in a great workout at the gym tonight after work. It’s safe to say, I’m tired!! So, here is a sunset photo I took from Burt Lake Michigan during our trip last July.

Above Burt Lake
Great view of the cottage we borrowed last month on Burt Lake in northern Michigan. Can you spot the cottage we used? By the way, I love the storm in the distance.

Last Week
I’ve been absent from my website and all social media last week. I was traveling and busy. Here’s how my week went:
· Sunday – drove from Pittsburgh to north of Detroit. Visited with my sister and her family, then dinner and visiting with my childhood friends and their wives/girlfriends.
· Monday – breakfast with a former boss/mentor. Then I visited with the Carmen’s….who are quasi parents to MJ and I. Following that, I went to visit with someone who helped raise me and ended the day by having dinner with my Dad. He and I got a chance to hang out and talk.
· Tuesday – my Dad and I went for a walk and then snorkeled at the beach in front of his cottage on Lake Huron. Following that I drove to Grayling Michigan (central northern Michigan) to visit with my Aunt, cousin and other family members. Following that nice visit, I traveled further north to join my scuba diving buddies.
· Wednesday through Friday – We ate, slept, visited and completed some cold water ship wreck scuba diving in Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. The depth of wrecks ranged from 90 feet to 158 feet. We dove on a steel freighter, wooden schooners and a wooden steamer. The water was around 71 degrees at the surface and as cold as 38 degrees below the thermocline. I’ve been diving with these guys for well over ten years and we always have a great time. This was no different. Afterward, I drove from northern Michigan to South Bend Indiana to meet up with MJ, Blair and our friends.
· Saturday – we all traveled to Chicago to see Pearl Jam play at Wrigley Field (see the photos below). Great concert in a great venue.
· Sunday – we had the long trip from Chicago back to Pittsburgh.
I took the photo of Scott Gibson and myself with my drone out on Lake Huron a few miles out from Mackinaw City. The other two (Tom and Kyle) were underwater at the time diving on the Cedarville ship wreck. Scott and I were wasting time waiting on them to come back up. You can see Mackinac Island off in the background.
Don’t forget to check out my photo galleries. I update and add to them often.
Scott and I in his boat miles from shore.
Pearl Jam at Wrigley Field - I took this with my iPhone.
The crew traveling into Chicago - Taken with a cell phone while I drove.
Gibson's Dive Charter
The annual guys Great Lakes ship wreck scuba diving trip is coming up in August. It’ll be here before I know it (you know how times flies). That had me thinking about last year’s trip… So I went back and found this photo I took with the drone looking down at us between dives.
