African Safari

I’m ready for another trip to Africa.  It’s hard to believe the trip was five years ago ready.  At times, it seems like yesterday and at other times it seems like it was decades ago.  Regardless, here are some photos from our safari.

Bull Elephant

Geez, I miss travel.  Well, I miss everything that used to be normal.  This Bull Elephant posed for us inside Kruger National Park (South Africa) during one of our safaris.  He stood on the road looking at us, making noise, flapping his ears, and looking tough.  I think this was in October of 2017….seems like two decades ago!!

Baby Baboon

After the news about RBG, we’ll need all the happy thoughts we can get!!!  To help you with that, I’m sharing this cute baby baboon photo which I took on our South Africa trip.  A troop baboons (maybe 10 of them) wandered by our safari vehicle.

White Rhino

I keep searching for happy photos to post since there is so much darkness in our world right now.  So tonight, I’m posting this photo from our 2017 trip to South Africa.  We came upon this White Rhino during one of our safari rides.  Wow, 2017 seems like 20 years ago right now…

Zebra

I need another trip to Africa.  It won’t happen in 2020, so maybe……2021?????   It’s hard to say at this point, but we had such an amazing trip to Africa last time.  So, another is a “must do” for us at some point.  Of course, I’ve also been saying we need to return to Iceland and that hasn’t happened yet either.  To many great places, too little time and money…..

I captured this Zebra photo on one of the many game drives we completed in South Africa or it could have been a game drive in Swaziland.  I can’t remember anymore.  Side note, Swaziland changed their name to Eswatini in 2018 after we visited.  Regardless, enjoy the zebra pic!!

Baby Baboon

Tonight’s photo is from our South Africa trip.  Hard to believe that was over two years ago now.  During one of the safaris, we came upon a troop of baboons including a few babies.  This guy sat down near our safari vehicle and let us take a bunch of photos.  By the way, I have no idea what is sticking out of his mouth.

Clarification:  In my Mid-Life Crisis video (posted last night) I mentioned it is getting close to my birthday.  What I meant is that my birthday is coming up within this year…..  Basically, using that as a lame excuse to justify my expensive camera gear purchase….  So, it isn’t my birthday anytime soon.  Sorry to confuse you….

The Herd

Looking through my feed, I noticed I haven’t posted any animal photos recently.  That got me thinking about our trip to South Africa, which lead me to this photo.  This was one of those magical moments that’s hard to explain.  This herd of elephants came down over the hill to drink and play in this river.  We sat there for a long time just watching the fun.   Just….well magical.

Rhino

Its hard for me to believe that it has been over a year and a half since our trip to South Africa.  How did that happen?  I guess that’s just how it works…. As they say, time flies.

Anyway, tonight I have a photo of a two Rhinos from that trip.  What a great experience….. I’m still thankful to our guide (Henk) and all the great travelers in our group who all helped make the trip a wonderful.

Vervet

Everybody needs a little Vervet Monkey in their life.  I know I enjoyed my time around some of these wonderful creatures in South Africa.  I took a bunch of photos while they played around us and tried to get our food.

Big Guy

This guy blocked the road for probably 10 minutes forcing us to wait while he completed his business.  Our driver tried to get him to move, but he wasn’t taking the hint.  So we just waited, took a ton of photos and enjoyed the show.  It’s hard to believe South Africa was a year ago…..how did that happen??

African Elephant

I don’t know about you, but I’m not ready for the weekend to be over.  I need to figure out how to be on permanent vacation.  I think the word for it is “retirement” and I’m not even close to that point yet.  So I’ll just have to get my head back into the game.  In the meantime, I’ll use this photo I took in South Africa to help get me there.

Lion Cubs

During one of our safaris in South Africa, the driver found this spot where is claimed to see Cheetah cubs.  We sat there for some time staring through the brush trying to see them.  Honestly, I took a ton of photos blindly in that direction because I couldn’t see them with my eye.  When I got back from that trip, I went back to look and found this photo.  First, it was amazing that the photo turned out great even though I was just guessing on the focus point and just shooting. Second, they were not Cheetah’s.

Wildebeest

I haven’t posted an African animal photo in a while, which is probably a good thing.  I’m sure you needed a break from them.  Regardless, here is another from that amazing trip.  Towards the end of our safaris, we came upon this group of Wildebeest.  They are such a unique animal…..  I loved them.
