Detroit Urbe Reflections

Happy Friday night.  Here is a 2018 throw back from a Detroit urban exploration photo weekend.  I captured this photo upstairs in the Cadillac Stamping plant after it rained hard.  I loved the refection of all the plumbing, metal work and industrial machinery.

Detroit Glory

This abandoned automotive factory is a wonderful explore.  I’ve been there a couple of times and would go back again.  It isn’t as big as the abandoned Packard Plant, but it is massive in its own right and there was a section full of unopened hockey sports cards….

Jupiter Factory Again

Here is another photo from the Jupiter Factory inside the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.  See my last post for a few more details on this factory.  I took this photo on an upper floor within the factory complex. I think this was a mechanical space or maybe support space.  It didn’t look like factory production space to me.  I liked the columns and other support beams in this room.

Abandoned Detroit

I don’t remember which factory building this photo came from.  I’ve visited so many, they blur together….  I loved the reflection in the standing water.

By the way, I’m sorry I’ve been absent from my blog and social media.  Life has just been very busy, but I won’t bore you with that.  Enjoy tonight’s photo and have a great Friday tomorrow.

Abandoned China Factory

It’s been a long week, do you agree?  I also have a busy weekend planned, what about you?  I hope you enjoy your weekend and upcoming week.

Tonight’s photo is from an abandoned china factory outside of Pittsburgh.  I loved the standing water in this area and the effect it has in this photo.

Fisher Body Plant

Today’s post is from the Fisher Body Plant in Detroit Michigan.  I took this photo in early 2018 when I was exploring the city with Theaterwiz, Robert, Blair, Jacques, and Luis.  I was happy and sad to see the improvements within the city.  They’re taking down and/or repairing abandoned buildings very quickly, which is great for the city….sad for urbex photographers like me.

I liked how the blue glass in the windows made this area look…..

Flooded Factory

It’s not always great to be out in the rain, but photography in an abandoned building during or just after a rain storm can create some great opportunities like this.  It rained for days prior to our arrival and was raining while we visited.  So there were a bunch of great opportunities for reflection shots like this one.

This was an abandoned factory in Detroit Mi.

Gears

What do you think of this photo?  It’s one of those photos that I like but am not sure whether anyone else will like it or not.

This pile of gears was inside the main building at Carrie Furnace.  I liked this perspective with all the gears going from the foreground to mid photo with the rest of the industrial building in the back ground.  Anyway… thoughts on this?

Chernobyl Cranes

I flew my drone a long way down the Pripyat River to capture this photo.  I honestly don’t remember the distance, but I can tell you it was far enough that I got nervous.  My drone was losing reception and acting weird.  When it started to fly back to me, I started to feel better again.   Thankfully, I captured this photo before it started acting up.

These cranes are abandoned on the river a short distance from the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine.

Pittsburgh's Past

I’ve posted some photos from this spot, Carrie Furnace, in the past.  We got private access to this site and spent a few hours photographing it from multiple angles (inside and out).  I love the fact that they’re saving this for historical purposes.  All other steel mill site around Pittsburgh area already gone.

Industrial

Something different for you today.  I realize it is a NFL Sunday and I should probably post a football photo.  But the Steelers don’t play until late tonight.  So instead I’m posting this industrial photo from the Carrie Furnace.  This abandoned location is super cool.

Carrie Furnace Structures

Today’s picture is from our photo walk at the Carrie Furnace.  I’ve posted and written about this spot in the past.  So I won’t waste your time with the background information again.  I love the industrial structures and machinery.

Industrial Urbex

Today’s post is another photo from the Carrie Furnace outside of Pittsburgh.  This former steel blast furnace help produce tons of steel per day, back when steel was actually made in Pittsburgh.  I liked how this yellow handle seems untouched by the decay and years of abandonment.

Funky Tunnel

I didn’t know what to call this photo.  I like it of course.  It’s a little artsy, a little different and maybe a little weird.  How would you describe it?

I took this inside the Carrie Furnace during our photo walk there with a group of friends.  Click HERE to read more information on this site from one of my prior post.

Fisher Body Plant - Assembly Line

We had a great time visiting family in the Detroit area over the Thanksgiving weekend.  While we were there, Blair and I made good use of some free time to photograph some abandoned spots.

To my surprise, we were not the only ones with this idea.  We hit three spots on Friday morning and ran into others doing the same thing.  In fact, when we showed up to the Fisher Body Plant, there were probably 20 other photographers already in the facility.

This photo is from the assembly line on the upper floor.    We probably spent a little over an hour in this building, but we could have stayed all day because it is huge.
