Downtown's Backside

Happy Sunday, where ever you are today.  I’m going to be lazy.  I planned on doing a bunch of yard work, except its been raining at my house.  So I’ll pivot to a more relaxing agenda.  Today’s photo is one I took on a past photo walk with Dave, and Brad from the back side of downtown Pittsburgh.  Most view and photograph Pittsburgh from the river side, which is the iconic view you always see.  This is why I think this perspective is so unique.

President Hotel

This photo probably won’t be of much interest to anyone else….it’s one of those “you had to be there” photos.  This is a photo of the pool (sort of looks like Pac-Man) at the President Hotel in Cape Town South Africa.  I was captivated by this pool area.  So I went out after sunset one evening to capture this photo with my drone looking down towards the back of the hotel.

They have a water shortage in Cape Town.  Therefore, the hotel pumps water into the pool right from the Atlantic Ocean.  They keep the water for a few days and then drain it back into the ocean and start all over again.  So the water is super cold, since the Atlantic Ocean is freezing this far south in the Southern Hemisphere.  Somehow that didn’t stop me from spending an hour in the water one evening.

Alcoa Headquarters

Here is another picture from my photo walk last week with Dave, Brad and Blair.  This is the Alcoa Headquarters building on the north shore area of Pittsburgh.  We had a great “blue hour” that night and this is just another example of the great lighting we had that night.

Have a great Sunday.

Harpa Concert Hall And Conference Centre

This is a beautiful concert hall in the harbor of Reykjavik Iceland.  It held it’s opening concert in May 2011 and is home to both the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and The Icelandic Opera.

I took this picture at about 1am in the morning when the sun was still setting in the harbor.  It was a perfect blue hour, except the blue hour lasted about 6 hours…because the sun doesn’t ever set during the summer in Iceland.  It’s an amazing example of beautiful modern architecture put in perfect place to make the entire project wonderful.  When you see it, you can’t help but be drawn towards it.
