This stainless-steel sculpture of a boat was put in place in 1990. It sits in a great location in the Reykjavik marina.
Jamaica Glory
Here is a drone photo I took a couple of years ago while the Carnival Glory was docked in Jamaica. I love the color of the Caribbean Sea.
Husavik
I’ve been going through a bunch of my Iceland photos from our pandemic trip and I’m sorry if you’re getting tired of them.
Here is another one. This is the harbor in the village of Husavik Iceland. I loved the looks of these ships with the mountains in the background.
Interesting fun fact: This is the village that is featured in the “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga” movie. During our time in this town, we visited a number of locations featured in the movie.
Under Armour HQ
Now that our film (Shutter Rush – Baltimore Edition) has been released on Amazon Prime (in Canada and the United States), I can share this photo. If you watched the film, you know we did some steel wool photos in front of Under Armour’s headquarters…. thankfully we didn’t burn up their property. We planned to do something special at their facility because they helped sponsor us that weekend and for the film. So, we wanted to add an Under Armour photo shoot to the video to show them some love.
As part of that photo shoot, I took a ton of images and video with my camera, iPhone and my drone. This photo looking down at Under Armour’s property on the waterfront, is of course a drone shot. Side note, MJ’s white SUV made it in this image and it was in the film a number of times.

Reflection
I got home late from work tonight and received some terrible news. I’m not going to get into the subject, but it has me reflecting on my extended family…… Photo: this is from the Baltimore Inner Harbor.

Bonaire Harbor
I hope you’re having a great weekend. I’ve been enjoying mine so far, but I want to go back to Bonaire…. Wow, what a great country, island, scuba diving, food, etc…
I took this photo one evening from resort right around the end of sunset. The sky was beautiful that night.

Valletta Harbor
This stop in Malta was amazing. I’d put Vellatta on my “return to” list in a second. Although next time, I want to see more of the country. This city had everything you’d want. Clean, safe, historical, beautiful, and just a whole lot of fun. I hope you like the photo that can’t do justice to actually standing there viewing it with your own eyes.
Bridgetown Harbor
Ok….keeping with the theme that I am busy still………I’ll just leave this for you like this. Bridgetown Harbor Barbados. Have a great weekend.
Special Behind The Scenes Picture: Here is a self-portrait I took while in the Finger Lakes area of New York State last October. I have no idea why I look so unhappy. I actually had a great day exploring this area of New York. It was a weekday and it was rainy, which meant I had these State parks to myself. It was perfect. I guess I just forgot to smile….. So here is the :-) to go with the picture.

Harpa Concert Hall And Conference Centre
This is a beautiful concert hall in the harbor of Reykjavik Iceland. It held it’s opening concert in May 2011 and is home to both the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and The Icelandic Opera.
I took this picture at about 1am in the morning when the sun was still setting in the harbor. It was a perfect blue hour, except the blue hour lasted about 6 hours…because the sun doesn’t ever set during the summer in Iceland. It’s an amazing example of beautiful modern architecture put in perfect place to make the entire project wonderful. When you see it, you can’t help but be drawn towards it.
Early Morning Calm
Sorry about the recent
absence…as you probably guessed, I’ve been traveling. I took a long weekend and met some friends for our annual
Great Lakes shipwreck scuba diving get together. In the past, we’ve gone to Whitefish Point on Lake Superior
and the Mackinaw Straits area diving in both Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. We’ve done this five years in a
row. This year we met in Alpena
Michigan to dive the Thunder Bay area of Lake Huron. We got in three full days of diving on everything from ocean
going modern steal freighters, barges, dredges, wooden steamers and ancient wooden
sailing vessels. A fun time was had
by all. In the past when the
weather is to bad to dive, I’ve gone and capture some photos. And you never know what the
weather will be like. This year,
we got lucky, got lots of dives in…..so I didn’t take many photos.
But I did capture this photo at about 7am on Sunday morning of a few strangers leaving the harbor heading out to go fishing. They didn’t know me, but stopped their boat to let me photograph them.
Sun Voyager
My friend called me tonight to ask me about my Iceland
trip. We don’t talk as much as we
should and it was nice to hear from him.
So tonight I am posting this Iceland picture for Mike. I hope he likes it.
Right on Saebraut Street in downtown Reykjavik Iceland along the harbor sits this beautiful sculpture called Sun Voyager. The sculpture is a dreamboat ode to the sun designed by Jon Gunnar Arnason.
Even though it is an ode to the sun, you can see I didn’t take this picture during a great sunny day. I actually took this 7-exposure HDR image at around midnight as the sun was going down on a stormy night. If it wasn’t for the storm, even after the sun went down, it would have remained light out.
This sculpture is so cool. I knew before our trip to Iceland I had to visit this location to see this amazing site. And I did. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did in person.
Common HDR Photography Questions (Part 1) - Before & After HDR Processing
Over the last two years, when discussing my photography with friends, family, coworkers and strangers a few questions seem to come up over and over. They usually want to know:
* What is HDR?
* Why I like HDR?
* How is HDR photography created?
So I thought I would answer these three questions via installments, starting with the question of, why do I like HDR?
I realize some people don’t like HDR photographs. Believe me, many people have told me this over time. Some people just hate it. Most of these people are polite about it, while others are more blunt, but there is a specific segment of the population who don’t like it. Their main reason for disliking it seems to be around the fact that they don’t look like traditional photographs. I get that and understand the appeal of traditional images. And frankly, some people just don’t like change.
The vast majority of the people who look at my photos give me very nice feedback. I think HDR photographs draw you in with their vivid colors, intense details, high contrast, and warm feel. There is just something about a great HDR photograph that catches my eye and draws me in that a normal photography of the same subject doesn’t typically do. Like all types of photography, there can be terrible HDR pictures and I’ve created my share of them. HDR photography like anything else takes practice before you get to a point where the pictures are consistently good. I don’t always create great HDR images, but I think I create pretty good pictures on a consistent basis.
Below you can see two “Before & After” pictures (and their final full HDR versions). The left side of each picture is the original photograph and the right side is the final processed HDR picture. In both examples, I think the HDR version is a much more interesting image with more detail in both the light and dark areas of the photographs. Of course, that is just my opinion. Some people love Black and White photography. They specialize in that form photography. Some photographers will focus on fashion photography. In the end, it comes down to the photographer’s personal style and what type of photography keeps them interested. For me, HDR, Underwater, and Sports photography keep me excited about the art of photography.
