Bonaire Diving

Its hard to believe it’s only been 9 months since we were in Bonaire.  It feels more like 10 years to me.  Weird how time feels different depending on what’s going on in our lives.

Anyway, I took this photo at the scuba diving shop at our resort during our time in Bonaire.  They have all these painted rocks from people all over the world.  These are just a small sample of the total.

Travel Sunrise

I scrolled through numerous photos in my archive tonight looking for something to post.  I came across this photo I took while on one of our cruises.  Per my normal process, I was up before 99% of the passengers trying to capture the ultimate sunrise photo.  I don’t think photo falls into the ultimate photo category, but I like it a bunch.

All Friends

I was surprised how many times we found different animals hanging out together during our safaris in South Africa.  This is just one example, but it was common site…especially giraffes and zebras.

Lioness

I’ve been trying not to over load you with photos from our South Africa trip.  As I’ve said numerous times, MJ would be happy with one safari animal photo after another.  So today’s post should make her happy… Will it make the rest of you happy???  Its doubtful.

We found this Lion during one of our safaris.  She was actually with another female lion.  They walked right towards us and cross the road in front of us (maybe 10 feet away).  A few minutes later, we watched them cross paths with a few Cape Buffalo, who turned and forced the Lions to keep going.  I thought the Lions might win that encounter, but I was wrong.  Apparently, a few of the Cape Buffalo can easily fight off the Lions.  As you can tell from the big scar on her leg, she’s been in some fights before.

Vervet Monkey

We saw lots of these Vervet Monkeys on safari in Kruger National Park.  They travel in group from 10 to up to 70 monkeys at a time.  The juvenile members were so cute.  They would run, play, pick on each other…

Here’s an interesting fact…. The males have blue testicles (blue balls..... see the photos below).  Apparently, the dominant male within the group has the vibrant color.  Why???  I don’t know.  That’s just what our guide said and as you can see below, they are definitely a robin egg blue color.  Note, I didn’t modify the photo.

Mother And Baby

As I’ve said a few times in the past, MJ and been asking for more African animal photos.  She mentioned it again today.  So here is a mother hyena and her baby from our time in Kruger National Park South Africa.  These two stayed in this spot, next to their den, while we got closer and closer.  They didn’t seem to mind our safari vehicle.  I liked this one with the baby’s tongue sticking out.

By the way, I’m sorry for the recent absence.  Thanks for your frequent visits to my site.

NABI

I hope everyone is having a great Friday.

I was literally going to post a photo of the Navy Yards in Washington DC, until MJ started giving me a hard time again.  I swear all she wants me to post right now are animal photos from South Africa.  I’m afraid all of you will get sick of them, but she can’t get enough of them right now.  Therefore, I have this Impala photo for you.  During the safari, the guide kept calling them “NABIs”, which states for “Not Another Bloody Impala”.  There were so many of them, that we wouldn’t even slow the safari vehicle down to look at them.

Regardless, I liked this NABI photo I captured from inside Kruger National Park.  To view a larger version, click HERE

Hippo Nap

Ready for another animal photo from the South Africa trip???  MJ can’t get enough of them…at least so far.  I liked this big guy just napping on his friends.  They didn’t seem to care that he was resting on them.  They were all basically napping in one big heap.

Zebra

I was going to post a photo from the Lions vs. Steelers game, but MJ wanted another South Africa animal photo.  So to make her happy, here we go.  This is a zebra that we came upon at Kruger National Park in the northeast corner of South Africa.

Giraffe

Did I mention how amazing our trip to South Africa was?  If not, I’ll tell you now.  We had a great trip, met lots of wonderful people and had some great experiences.  This was one of them….we sat at this spot for probably 20 minutes waiting on this giraffe to take a drink.  I know that sounds like a simple, maybe stupid thing, but it was beautiful to watch.

President Hotel

This photo probably won’t be of much interest to anyone else….it’s one of those “you had to be there” photos.  This is a photo of the pool (sort of looks like Pac-Man) at the President Hotel in Cape Town South Africa.  I was captivated by this pool area.  So I went out after sunset one evening to capture this photo with my drone looking down towards the back of the hotel.

They have a water shortage in Cape Town.  Therefore, the hotel pumps water into the pool right from the Atlantic Ocean.  They keep the water for a few days and then drain it back into the ocean and start all over again.  So the water is super cold, since the Atlantic Ocean is freezing this far south in the Southern Hemisphere.  Somehow that didn’t stop me from spending an hour in the water one evening.

Minimalist

Today’s picture is one I took at a Steelers’ game last season as a U.S. Military Special Forces team parachuted into the stadium.  I’ve been thinking about Minimalist Photography for a while now.  So I went back to find this photo, because I knew it fit within this genre.  I’ve posted a few minimalist photos over the last few weeks so see how they did.   I hope you like the style and this photo.  Its simple, clean, and tells a story.

Ghost Ship At Sunrise

I can’t wait for the next Caribbean trip.  Until that day comes, I’ll have to settle on the memory of a past trip.  I took this photo at sunrise before 90% of the other tourists were even out of their beds.  Early photographer gets the photo…..
