Here is a short drone time lapse video (what DJI calls Hyperlapse) of downtown Pittsburgh from the Fort Pitt Bridge back down the Allegheny River. I captured this last Sunday morning before sunrise.
Flight 93 National Memorial
In memory of the lives lost 19 years ago on September 11th ….here is a sculpture from the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville PA. This structure is called the Tower of Voices.

Tower of Voices
This is the unique structure at the Flight 93 National Memorial. It is supposed to have a bunch of chimes inside it…regardless I liked it. I liked all the different and unusual photographic angles. Plus, I got lucky with a great sky that day.

PPG Place
As you’ve probably noticed, I love my drone. Not only do I like flying it, but I love the photo perspectives I can get with it. Today’s post is from a recent flight in downtown Pittsburgh. This is the top of PPG Place. If you’ve never seen it, the complex is amazing.

Highmark
Ok. I need to post a photo that isn’t from Europe to break my recent streak. So here is a aerial photo from downtown Pittsburgh looking down at the Highmark building. Have a great weekend.

Downtown Up Close
Short post tonight…… Today’s photo is a aerial close up of downtown Pittsburgh that I took a few months ago. If you haven’t been, you’d be surprised how cool this city is everyday.

Pripyat Apartment Building
It’s been five months since we returned from our Chernobyl trip and I’ve only processed about 20% of the photos I took on that trip. And I haven’t edited any of the videos at all. It’ll take me years to get them all done. In fact, I just finished editing my photos from South Africa, which happened in 2017….. It just takes me a while.
Why did I tell you all that, I don’t know. Regardless, this is a photo I took with the drone looking down at an apartment building in Pripyat inside the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. You can see our bus and a few of us on the street in front of the building. What a great experience.

Mexican Peninsula
What a beautiful spot!! I took this photo with my drone while traveling north of Cancun. The beach was amazing along this stretch. I think I need a vacation home in this area. Anyone want to back that project for me?

Sunrise Over The Beach
What can I say about this photo that is doesn’t say by itself? Probably nothing!!! Let’s just sit back and enjoy it. I took this photo, along with a bunch of others, with my drone flying back and forth low along the beach. I love the colors and feel of it.

Pink Lakes
Here is another drone photo I took from our Bonaire trip. This beautiful little Caribbean island is worth a visit. I loved everything about it including these pink lakes. They are not actually lakes, they are shallow man-made ponds of sea water setup for the collection of sea salt after the water evaporates. Just a beautiful spot.

PGH Cityscape
I hope you’re having a great weekend. We got a little snow in our area yesterday. I took this drone photo a couple of weeks ago from downtown Pittsburgh (pre-snow). Look how high the water is in the rivers…. Right up to the top of the river walk. Anymore and they’ll have flooding in downtown Pittsburgh.

Suwannee River
Hello Monday!! I took this photo last August while I was in Florida at a family member’s house. That area of the state is very rural with lots of wilderness and nothingness. This county has less than 9,000 total people according to the 2010 Census. In fact (according to Wikipedia), this county is the 2nd least populous in the state of Florida. Anyway, there is something very pretty about the Suwannee River from the ground and certainly from the air. By the way, in case you’re wondering, this river is approximately 246 miles long.

KLM Close Call
We enjoyed a nice week in St. Maarten. One of our excursions during the week was to visit the Sunset Bar at the end of the airport runway. As you can see, the runway starts at the beach and we watched a number of big and small planes land. This spot is popular with the locals and tourist because of how close you can get to the planes. The KLM flight into St. Maarten is the largest flight that lands here and it barely fits. It is the “must see” flight if you’re heading to this spot.
It didn’t get the best weather for this excursion, but we got what we came for, which was the close encounter with the landing planes.
Have a great Christmas later this week.
Puffin Flight
The previous three years,
I volunteered as a Baldrige Examiner for the National Institute of Standards
and Technology within the Department of Commerce. Working for the government as an Examiner just destroys your
summer. Examiners refer to the
experience as the “lost summer”.
The reason you choose to lose your summer is that the experience,
learning and knowledge gained is amazing.
It’s like cramming a Masters Degree into 4 months. At the end of those summers, I was
exhausted.
So when I decided not to participate as an Examiner this year, I was excited about the opportunity to have some fun, travel and not be exhausted going into October. Well…..I probably went to far the other way this summer. Moderation wasn’t in my vocabulary…. I’ll admit that I am tired going into this fall. Between work, everyday life and all our travel, I am very very tired.
As summer transitioned into fall, I’ve taken a few moments to reflect on all the great, exciting, enriching, exhausting, and fulfilling moments MJ and I had during all our recent travels. I’ve enjoyed visiting with our family and friends, seeing new cities, and experiencing new cultures. Looking back on everything, Iceland was the highlight of the summer for me. In Iceland, both of us really enjoyed our time with the Puffins. So thinking back on those moments, I decided to post a picture of these beautiful birds.
