Faces of F1

A few of the individuals at the 2023 USGP

2023 Formula 1 US Grand Prix

Here are a few photos from the grid and garages right before the race.

FIA Formula 1 series

I’ve enjoyed the start of the 2023 FIA Formula 1 season so far.  I can’t wait until the next race that I can attend.  Until then, here is a small series of photos I took at the United States Grand Prix last October.

F1 Behind the Scenes

I had a great time covering the 2022 FIA Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in Austin Texas last month.  I’ve already shared a bunch of driver, car and celebrity photos from those three days.

Today, I’m going to share photos from behind the scenes.  These will include the media spaces, media members, drivers getting interviewed, tree planting event, other photographers, myself, etc...

More F1

Here are more from the recent 2022 FIA Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in Austin Texas.

2022 FIA Formula 1 Season About to Start

I’m still worried about and tracking progress in Ukraine, but I’m posting about something else today.  That doesn’t mean I stopped caring…...

Anyway, here is a video put together from our time at the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin Texas.

I’m very excited about the upcoming F1 season kickoff.  Anyone else?

More F1

I’ve been working my way through all the photos I took during the FIA Formula 1 US Grand Prix.  Of the 27k photos, I selected a little over a 100 to edit.  Here are a few I edited yesterday.

Scuderia Alpha Tauri

Below are a few photos I captured of the Scuderia Alpha Tauri Formula 1 Team at the 2021 FIA Formula 1 US Grand Prix.  The Alpha Tauri drivers are Pierre Gasly (#10) and Yuki Tsunoda (#22).  They are the sister team to Red Bull Racing.  Yuki is a rookie F1 driver and is just trying to figure it all out.  Gasly is an extremely talented driver who gets the most out of his car.  He often challenges the major teams (Mercedes and Red Bull) even though he has a substandard car and technology.

Carlos Sainz

Today’s post is of Carlos Sainz at the 2021 FIA Formula 1 US Grand Prix which took place at the Circuit Of The Americas (Austin Texas).  Carlos drives for Scuderia Ferrari along with Charles LeClerc.  They are currently 6th (LeClerc) and 7th (Sainz) in the standings for the 2021 Driver’s Championship.

I hope you don’t mind I got a little arty with this photo edit.

George Russell

I watched the FIA F1 Mexico City Grand Prix today.  Formula 1 had two weeks off since the USGP in Austin Texas.  Watching the race today on TV made me realize how much I enjoyed the USGP experience and would love to photograph more Formula 1 races in the future.  I’ll have to think about that and start making some plans for next season.

The photo I’m posting for you today is George Russell who drives for Williams Racing.  Next season, he’ll switch to the Mercedes racing team along side Lewis Hamilton.  And with that team change, he’ll finally have a chance to win a race.  The Williams Racing team has struggled to put a competitive car on the grid the last few years.

I took this photo at the 2021 USGP, of course.

Max again

Here is a photo I took during the last couple laps of the FIA Formula 1 USGP in Austin Texas.  These race cars are super fast.  I’d get one good, focused photo out of every 10 photos.  I have one of the fasted shooting and focusing cameras in the world and the cars are too quick!!

It appears that Max Verstappen will win the 2021 season Championship with only a handful of races to go (he has a 12-point lead with 5 races to go).  That’ll make a ton of Red Bull racing fans happy, but I’d prefer to see Lewis Hamilton win his 8th Championship.  It doesn’t look like that will happen this year.  Max will probably get his first.

Winner...Max Verstappen

@jasonpohuski and I hustled to the finish line to make sure we captured the end of the FIA F1 USGP race.  Red Bull Racing Honda’s Max Verstappen won the race with his rival (Lewis Hamilton who drives for Mercedes) right behind him in 2nd place.  It was a fun event to cover and probably the most difficult thing I’ve ever photographed.  It was a technical and logistical challenge from the beginning to the end.

About this photo, the winning pit crew always runs to the wall to cheer for their driver going passed the finish line.  At this track, at this time of day, it was a tough shot to get because of the harsh sun, shadows from the grandstands, the speed of the car and several other factors.  So it isn’t the best photo in the world, but it captures some of the emotion involved in the sport.
