Szentendrei Door

While we (MJ, Kris, Scott and I) were in Hungary, we stopped by this little artist village for an afternoon.  It had a bunch of very small streets, alleys, and foot paths between buildings that are not in a logical pattern.  Most of the buildings are homes with unique entrances like this one.  I stopped to take so many photos, I lost the rest of our group.  They kept going (I was supposed to catch up) and after 5 minutes I was lost in these little streets.  I thought I knew what direction they went, but I was wrong.  So I wandered around for another 30 minutes before they found me…..  They grabbed an outdoor spot at a café and saw me walking by.  Honestly, I knew I wasn’t in trouble because we had a time and place to meet later for our trip back to Budapest, but I wasn’t sure I’d find them before that.  It all worked out and we had an amazing lunch at this cafe (see some iPhone food photos of the lunch below).

Make America Great Again...Black Inventors

On our recent trip to Charlotte, MJ and I wandered around the downtown area.  It was basically deserted, since it was Christmas day.  We found this mural on an abandoned building a few blocks from Marshall Park in the southeast corner of downtown.  I thought it was an appropriate photo following today’s event.

George Washington Hotel Lobby

This hotel was built in 1923 and designed by famous architect William Lee Stoddart.  Presidents JFK and Harry S. Truman have stayed at the hotel in the past.  There have been a number of music and movie stars who have stayed at the hotel over the years.  Interestingly, the horror film New Terminal Hotel starring Corey Haim (if you can call him a star), was filmed here.  In 2010, local firefighters discovered what they thought was the most grisly murder in Washington in over 35 years.  About 8 hours was spent investigating before authorities discovered it was leftover from the film.

This picture is from the second level looking down on the lobby.  You can see the full color version below as well.

The Blackwater Falls

This is a 5-exposure set taken of the Blackwater Falls in Blackwater Falls State Park, West Virginia.  This is one of many waterfalls in this state park and this specific one is over 50 feet tall.  Over the winter, they had a landslide that destroyed the lower boardwalk, so while we where there you couldn’t get down to the lower viewing platform seen in the photo.  That was all right with me, because that might have been to close for photography anyway and people would have been in my shot.

If you are interested in this location, you can see more about it at their website:

Blackwater Falls State Park

MJ and I had nothing planned today and it was a sunny, but a bit cool.  I mentioned to her in the past that I wanted to go to Blackwater Falls State Park in WV.  So this morning she suggested we pile in the car and go check it out.  We did some last minute packing (camera, maps, hiking boots, etc…) and away we went.  It took us a little over two hours to get there and we spent most of the day in the state park.  It doesn’t sounds like much, but we hiked about 6 miles in some very rough territory (some would call it mountainous).  We climbed all over the ravines, valleys, rivers, and trails.  All so I could take a few more photos.  Imagine that!!!.

Additional Note:

Today is my Uncle Jim’s birthday.  I hope he had a great day.
