MJ and I love Barbados. What’s not to love about that wonderful country, location and people? I took this photo on one of our excursions. I love the view of the sailboat in front of the beach. They told us that the white home in the background is Rihanna’s home. I don’t know if I believe them because they probably say that about every large house on the island to the tourist. But…maybe they’re telling the truth????
Barbados (almost heaven)
Dover Beach - Barbados
During our last trip to Barbados, we stopped by this beach for dinner a few times. There is a great Tapas restaurant there right on the boardwalk. Both times we ate at this spot, we witnessed a great sunset. This was my favorite of the two evenings.
End Of A Beach Day
Sorry for the recent absence from the website. Work has me busy right now. I’ll get you more routine postings and longer blog descriptions in the near future. So for now, please enjoy this sunset photo I took from my last trip to Barbados. What an amazing island….
Dreaming About Barbados
I’ve gotten used to traveling whenever we have some free time. So when MJ and I have a “long stretch” between trips, I miss it. Now…..I realize that my definition of “long stretch” isn’t the same as most people. I also realize I’m spoiled. I have the opportunity to travel that many people either don’t have or don’t want to do. So I’m not asking for anyone to feel sorry for me. That’s not the point of tonight’s post.
All I’m trying to say is that I’m ready for the next trip and I wish it was right around the corner. So until then, I’m just thinking about some of our recent trips. Thus….Dreaming About Barbados
Bottom Bay Barbados
There are so many wonderful little bays and beach all the way around Barbados. Many of them are in out of the way places. So once you arrive, it is very likely that you might have the place to yourself. If the beach isn’t abandoned, it won’t have more than 5 people or so hanging out. These little bays are like having a bunch of private beaches to explore.
I don’t know if our traveling companions remember this specific beach or not, but it was a unique location. I’d go back in a second.

Barbados Post Sunset
So it is currently sunset time at my house in Pittsburgh while I type this. So I think it is fitting that I post a sunset photo. I selected this photo from Barbados. I actually took this photo about ten minutes after sunset. Just a wonderful spot to enjoy a sunset! Don’t you agree?
Pure Barbados
Beer
In the last few months I’ve had some outstanding trips to Barbados, Wisconsin, Seattle, and Sedona. Because of that, I haven’t rotated by photos much. You’ve gotten a healthy dose of photos from Barbados and Seattle specifically. But Sedona is going to start making a run towards the top. With that in mind, I have another Barbados photo for you tonight. Here is a photo I took on Pebbles Beach in the Carlisle Bay area.
By the way, this was a great local beer.
Cherry Tree Hill - Barbados
Sunset at Neptune's
Here is another picture from our Barbados trip. I might be over doing it with Barbados pictures, but my gosh it was an amazing place. I can’t help myself. If you like warm, tropical, islands, beaches, the ocean, Caribbean, etc….. Barbados has to be at the top of your visit list.
We’ve been there a few times before on cruises. So this trip was the first time we spent more then a day there. I’ll have to tell you that after that visit, I’d move there for good in a heartbeat. There are tons of other great places in the Caribbean (and we’ve visited a bunch of them), but this place is just outstanding. It’s clean, safe, beautiful, calm, friendly, stable, on and on and on……. Just outstanding!
Neptune’s Grill is the restaurant on the left in this photo. We hung out at this spot playing in the pool, swimming in the ocean, walking on the beach, having cocktails in these beach chairs, and eating at this grill. Every night, people gather here to watch the sunsets. I’m ready to go back right now.

Barbados Sunset
I’ve been working on some photos from our Barbados trip this afternoon. When I finished this one today, I knew it had to get posted. MJ agreed and you now benefit. I took this in front of the Radisson Aquatica Resort Barbados on our 2nd night. This is the type of outstanding sunset we experienced everyday. Have a great Sunday.
Bridgetown Harbor
Ok….keeping with the theme that I am busy still………I’ll just leave this for you like this. Bridgetown Harbor Barbados. Have a great weekend.
Special Behind The Scenes Picture: Here is a self-portrait I took while in the Finger Lakes area of New York State last October. I have no idea why I look so unhappy. I actually had a great day exploring this area of New York. It was a weekday and it was rainy, which meant I had these State parks to myself. It was perfect. I guess I just forgot to smile….. So here is the :-) to go with the picture.

Barbados Beach Front
Fair warning….I’ll be extremely busy for the next month with work. So most of the post will be short. Sorry… I took this along the west coast of Barbados, while on a walk with MJ and a few others. Typical day in Barbados… wonderful!!!. Anyway, they have these walk ways along some areas of the coast to connect the beaches and protect the island from erosion. Have a great week.
10 Saints Beer
Tonight I have something different for you. When we were in Barbados, we found this fairly new beer that is made on the island. It was first brewed in 2009 by 10 Saints Brewery Company. The beer is unique because it is aged for 90 days in Mount Gay ‘Special Reserve’ Rum casks. By the way, Mount Gay Rum is made in Barbados as well. This gave the beer a very smooth taste and made it our beer of choice all week. It is named 10 Saints because of the 10 Parishes (like counties in the United States) in Barbados are named after saints.
Anyway, I did an impromptu product photo shoot towards the end of the week. I cleared an area of the beach near our hotel, with the ocean and sailboats in the background. I took two bottles and let them sweat a little in the Caribbean sun. Then I laid on my stomach to get the camera as low as possible for this shot. And I attempted to bounce the sunlight back at the bottles.

I have a special note below today’s photo….don’t forget to scroll down to see it.
NEWS:
Recently I was contacted by a research doctor at the University of Pittsburgh about using one of my photos for an upcoming conference. We negotiated a little and came to an agreement. So now my photo of PNC Park is being used for the annual Pheno 2015 conference poster. The conference gathers international physicists working on the phenomenology of elementary particles, cosmology, and astrophysics. Don’t ask me what any of that means….. The cool thing about this is the poster will be mailed and electronically sent to potential attendees around the world. You can see the poster below.
Barbados Turtle
One of the wonderful activities that is very easy to do in Barbados (with or without a tour guide) is to snorkel with turtles. There are lots of tour companies who will pick you up, put you on a boat, give you snorkeling gear, put guides in the water, provide lunch, provide drinks, etc…. Or you can take your own gear, do a little research, and just swim out from the beach.
While we were in Barbados, we snorkeled with turtles using both methods. I had a great time both times. So tonight I am sharing one of my photos from snorkeling with the Barbados turtles. I think his/her name should be Crush, which was the name of the turtle in Finding Nemo.
Barbados Sunset
If you couldn’t tell from some of my past blog posts, I loved Barbados. I’d move there tomorrow if life didn’t get in the way. It was wonderful in so many ways. Previously, I posted pictures from the Barbados Parliament building, Foul Bay and Bottom Bay. Tonight, I have a sunset photo taken from the Radisson Aquatica Resort Barbados, which sits south of Bridgetown on Carlisle Bay. It’s an excellent spot. While we were on the island, we didn’t see many big pools. We guessed that with fresh water being a limited resource on the island, having a large pool is probably expensive.
Anyway, our hotel was no different. Most places don’t have a pool at all…why would you need one with all the amazing beaches they have. But the places that do have a pool, like the Radisson, have small pools.
This is the view from the lobby of the Radisson looking out over their pool and deck to the sunset beyond. Just beautiful!!
